There’s no doubt the iPhone 4 will be insanely popular, but how bad is the situation going to be? Will the device be scarce over the summer? Will it be like the Wii launch, and be nigh on impossible to find?
British telecom O2 has issued a statement, saying:
iPhone 4 will only be available for existing O2 customers at launchiPhone stock will be extremely limited in the UK at launch and not everybody who wants one will be able to get one straight away. We want to make sure that our existing customers get priority so until at least the end of July, only existing O2 customers will be able to get an iPhone 4 from us.
The Street is also reporting that the available supplies could be substantially below demand, citing Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar who says that there have screen shortages, meaning Apple will only be able to ship out 2 million phones per month, half their original planned amount.

o2 has been a completely seperate entitity from British Telecom for at least 12 years
British telecom as in a telecom from Britain, not the company British Telecom.
