Speaking at the D:Dive Into Media event, HBO’s Eric Kessler shared some good news on the HBO Go front. Starting today, users can use the iPad or iPhone version of the app to AirPlay to an Apple TV. Up until now, the company had blocked AirPlay.
The decision not to support AirPlay from the get go was an odd decision by HBO. The Apple TV is a streaming media device, no different than the the ROKU which currently offers the HBO Go app, allowing users to stream HBO’s collection to their HDTV’s. It’s not as if HBO was blocking their content from being viewed on anything but a mobile device.
As for HBO Go coming to Apple TV, Kessler indicated that will happen. “We will get on Apple TV, as we’ve said all along.”
