Based on comments by you, our wonderful readers, there were three major issues in iOS 4.0.x

  1. The proximity sensor was completely out of whack, and would regularly lead you to hanging up or muting people accidentally.
  2. There was a major drop in quality with Bluetooth headset connections
  3. The iPhone 3G slowed down to being borderline unusable.

All three of these were meant to be addressed by iOS 4.1, the question is, were they? We have an amazing sample through our readership, so we want to know from you, if the new update has fixed these problems. You were vocal when they first arrived, now we want to know if they’ve gone. Tell us what iOS 4.1 has fixed for you, and what is still broken.

  1. My 3G feels so much more responsive now. Before 4.1 I thought I was going to rip my hair out. Now Safari is quicker, it takes less the three seconds to open my camera, and settings opens before I have time to turn on a movie. And such great news that they found an exploit so quick. Gotta love the JB community, keep up the great work.

  2. Hondamaker says:

I had a minor issue with the proximity sensor, which has been fixed with 4.1. The only problem is when I take the phone away from my face, it takes a little longer for the screen to reappear.

  3. My biggest issue with the last OS was my wifi performance was terrible. I had one bar and lousy performance with my (newer model) Linksys router in the next room. It appears that 4.1 has corrected this isssue.

    • I really didn’t have that much of a proximity issue, I have seen it activate a couple times, but it never hung up on anyone, or activated any other call functions.
Since the update, when I use the phone on my left ear, it acts like the previous models with normal operation. My right ear apparently has problems activating the sensor. Might just be me.

  4. Can anyone comment on the yellow picture issue. Have the gotten any better with 4.1?

  5. Adrian Cronauer says:

For me my Motorokr bluetooth headphones now completely work! It used to be I could play/pause only, now ALL the controls work, and it seems to run much smoother. Had one lockup in a dropped call, but it did correct itself and was not permanent.

  6. Proximity sensor still broken for me. Hung up on two people so far today with my face…no noticeable difference in function (or lack thereof) at 4.1

  7. I have a 3gs and since downloading 4.1, I noticed my network goes on and off at times. If I’m online, 3G and Edge will go on and off and it’s starting to get annoying. I never had this problem with 4.0.1.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Should I take my phone into Apple and see what they can do?

  8. Gerald I’m having the same problem. I have a 3GS and since upgrading to 4.1 it switches from 3G to Edge to Searching…… I didn’t have this problem before the update. Apple really needs to do something QUICK!!!

  9. I have an iPhone 3GS, it worked great until I put 4.0 on it, then it started dropping calls. I hoped the 4.1 update would fix the issue but it actually made it worse!!! I can barely hold a conversation it drops the calls so often.

  10. Mary Bryant says:

I downloaded 4.1 to my iPod Touch and it will not integrate with my Bose docking station or with my car stereo now. The car stereo is the Pioneer AVH-4200 and the Bose dock is one of the newest made. I can play out of the 1/8″ stereo jack, but that’s not why I spent 400 dollars on an iPod. If I wanted to play out of a jack I could buy a much better device for a LOT less money. Everything worked great before 4.1. I have even swapped it out at the Apple store for a new unit with the same exact results. They have made 1600 dollars worth of new accessories useless. I have called customer support and have gotten zero help from them. It IS DEFINITELY the latest software/firmware and is not compatible with devices made in this year. Apple sucks!!!

  11. I am still having intermittent problems with the proximity sensor on the iPhone 4. Since the update it has gotten better but is NOT fixed. Going to Apple tomorrow with video of the problem and maybe they will believe me this time. After I updated to 4.1 and had the problem I took it into Apple and basically was treated like I did not know what I was talking about. Unfortunately it is after the 30 day return but they should make exceptions considering how poor the device is.
