How to add stocks to stock app on iOS

By default, you’ll find a few stocks and indexes populating your app. To add your own stocks, follow these steps:

  1. From within the Stocks app, tap on the menu icon (looks like three bullet points with lines) at the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Tap on the ‘+’ at the top right.
  3. You can either enter the company name or stock symbol, if you know it. As you type, the app will attempt to find the corresponding stock. Tap on the stock to select it and it will be added to your list.
  4. Tap ‘Done’ to exit to the main screen.

If you select a stock by tapping on it, the first thing you’ll notice is that the bottom of the app changes to provide numerous data points for the stock selected. How to view stocks by percentage, price or market cap

When viewing your portfolio, the red or green (depending upon your day) boxes will display either percentage, price or market cap. If you tap on any of your stocks, you can change that on the fly, making it a quick way to view all of this information quickly. The Stocks app also lets you set the default option and here’s how:

  1. From within the Stocks app, tap on the menu icon (looks like three bullet points with lines) at the bottom right of the screen.
  2. At the bottom, you’ll see three tabs. Tap to select your preference (Percentage, Price, Market Cap).

How to view stock charts

As indicated above, tapping on a stock allows you to scroll left to right in the bottom pane. The middle pane offers a look at charts for your stock. Like the news pane, this isn’t a static screen. It allows you to change the chart to 1 day, 1 week, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year or 2 years. If you rotate your iPhone horizontally, the chart will expand to the full screen.

Tip: From within any of the panes, rotating the iPhone horizontally will bring up the associated chart.

How to show your preferred stocks, indexes in Notification Center

A quick way to view your Stocks is by accessing them through the Notification Center, by dragging down from the top of the screen. You can do this from anywhere on your iPhone, including the lock screen. The Stocks widget only displays the first six stocks, often occupied by the Dow Jones, Nasdaq and other predefined stocks. You can re-order the list of stocks, so that your primary stocks appear when accessing in the Notification Center.

  1. From within the Stocks app, tap on the menu icon (looks like three bullet points with lines) at the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Tap and hold the three lines next to the stock you’d like to move and drag it up or down in the list.
  3. Tap ‘Done’ to exit to the main screen.
