John Gruber — who remains one of the best connected people in all Appledom — has weighed in on the iPad Mini, and he seems to think that Apple’s working on the device. He says:
For another thing, I and others have heard from Cupertino-area little birdies that what Apple has been working on in the lab is a smaller iPad, not a bigger iPod. Same goes for last week’s reports from Bloomberg and the WSJ.
Gruber maintins that the 7.85-inch display will be a smaller version of the iPad, and that should be more likened to an 8-inch display than the 7-inch one that’s frequently cited. He also points out that it’ll have 66% of the surface area of the fullsize iPad, and links to this website to show off the size difference.
The other thing to take away from Gruber’s write-up, is even though Steve Jobs professed no interest in a smaller tabler, famously claiming it’d have to ship with sandpaper so people could file down their fingers, he frequently changed his mind. After all, he claimed Apple had no interest in the cellphone business.
Now, if John Gruber is claiming that he’s hearing that this thing is in the works, then you better start saving your pennies for an iPad Mini.
