Tech journalist John Gruber has offered his views on the upcoming iSlate/Tablet, and even though he doesn’t have a much information, he has some interesting ideas.
The only thing concrete he has to offer is that the Tablet is real, that Jobs is happy with it, and that everyone involved is under strictest silence. He points out that a similar thing happened in ’07 before the release of the iPhone, when many of the same engineers and designers just dropped of the face of the map to work on the thing.
He also thinks the iSlate will be a multipurpose device, and that it will be an alternative for the MacBook, not sit between it and the iPod.
And so in answer to my central question, regarding why buy The Tablet if you already have an iPhone and a MacBook, my best guess is that ultimately, The Tablet is something you’ll buy instead of a MacBook.
I say they’re swinging big — redefining the experience of personal computing.

I don’t think Apple will jeopardize sales of it’s macbook. It’s an unrealistic thought. This tablet will have it’s shortcomings compared to the macbook, so people will still want a MB, and also a tablet. IMHO.
OK, upon further study, I see Apple possibly wanting to replace the low-end macbook, but keeping the MBP. I wonder if they’ll continue to produce the MBA?
