With CES happening next week, the number of utterly useless product announcements is off the charts. But every now and then, we see something that’s actually pretty damned cool — like the fact Corning is set to debut the third generation of Gorilla Glass.
Gorilla Glass 3 is claimed to be three times as scratch resistant, have 40% fewer visible scratches, and 50% stronger after the glass has been compromised (so hopefully less shatter prone). Apparently this is due to a new feature called Native Damage Resistance (NDR).
Heck, anything that makes your iPhone less likely to be scratched by errant pocket detritus, or to just generally be tougher is a good thing. Here’s hoping that Gorilla Glass 3 is available in time for the next iteration of the iPhone later this year.
