 Google Releases Standalone YouTube App

One of the features Apple pulled from iOS 6 is the built-in YouTube app, a casualty of the war with Google. Now, just one day before the iPhone 5 is set to launch, Google has released its own official, standalone, YouTube app. Announced in a blog post, the app is described as “built by YouTube engineers, to give our iPhone and iPod touch users the best mobile experience.”

Google has added a new YouTube channel guide, better searching, and overhauled sharing in the new app. While this is available for the iPhone and iPod Touch right now, the iPad version isn’t quite finished yet, and is said to be coming out “in the coming months”.

Since iOS 6 is also without the Google Maps data in Maps.app, keep your eyes peeled for Google to release their own navigation program in the very near future.
