 Google Buys Up Snapseed Maker

Snapseed is, hand’s down, one of the best photo editors on iOS. In fact, I’m pretty sure it takes the number one slot. Now we’re hearing that Google has purchased parent company Nik Software. While Nik is the force behind a great many pieces of photography software — notably Capture NX and the Efex Pro line — word is that this purchase went down so Google could get the iOS side of things.

According to the Verge, Google grabbed the company to get Snapseed, and the Snapseed team is relocating to Google’s campus, and will begin working with Google+. Hopefully this won’t mean the death of Snapseed as a standalone app, which would be an incredible sadness for people who want to edit photos on iOS.

  1. if they really wanted to be dirty they could just buy all the top app makers out, make an android version and stop supporting ios. Lol…. But that would be evil. Or they could just sue everyone due to the inability to actually have any real innovations in the last 4 years but that strategy is already taken… And they do have actual innovations. Sooo….

  2. A few scenerious here:
    - Keep it on iOS and make money off the iphone
    - Apple pulls it from the appstore
    - Google keeps the app as is and will no longer support it on iOS
my thoughts…..it stays on iOS and and they keep making money.
