A PR firm accused of writing iTunes App Store reviews for its clients has reached a settlement with the FTC. Under the proposed agreement (readable here, PDF warning), Reverb Communications has to remove all reviews written by their employees pretending to be app store users. The company is also barred from further reviews that pretend to be independent, and don’t reveal the link between the company and clients.
Really? That’s it? You fake reviews, which people rely on to tell them if an app is worth getting, and all that happens is you get told not to do it again? No fines? No censure? No permanent one-star review? Surely there should be some real consequences?
There seems to be a lot of this going on! There is a ton of junk on the app store, photos don’t match what you get either, graphics look great in photos and then you buy the game and they suck! Photo’s taken from the intro movie’s=LAME! Huge disappointment!
