Default Windows 7 Question

I know this is a Windows/iPhone forum...but I have a computer question.

I am going to buy the upgrade of Windows 7 (Have to, Vista sucks).

When I put it on my computer for the first time, I want it to be a completely clean install. However, it is an upgrade disk.

So my question is this:

Do I reformat my computer on Vista, do all the vista updates from Microsoft Update and then install the Windows 7 upgrade? Or is there a way to do this all at once and get Windows 7 on from the get-go?

Thanks!!!

If it's an upgrade disc, you need to have vista installed first.

I thought there was a way to make like another disc to like combine both. I know you can do that when Windows releases a service pack.

Anyone?

Why would you bother doing the Vista updates when the Win7 is going to overwrite most of that stuff anyway?

Do a clean install of Vista, then use the upgrade disc to get going with Win7

EDIT: MS says you may need to update to the latest SP before upgrading to Win7. One thing you should know, don't bother with the rest of the updates just do SP2 and be done with it.

So you're saying do a complete reformat with Vista. Click on Updates and just do the SP2. Then put the Windows 7 CD in and upgrade. Then do everything else?

Here's what I would do. Go here and download the release candidate of windows 7. I have it running on my wife's computer and have yet to have a problem whereas vista was a disaster. If you do this you will have the option on the install to do an entirely new reformatted install. The RC version is good for a year so once 7 comes out officially for purchase go buy your upgrade and you will be good to go!

I don't know if you can upgrade from a release candidate...

Just ordered the upgrade.

What version of Windows 7 is the RC? Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate? Cause I ordered the upgrade for Home Premium for my Vista Home Premium.

Anyone else have an opinion on this?

The RC is ultimate. I don't think you'll be able to "upgrade" to premium from ultimate.
