Default Syncing Problem

Hi all

I am having a problem syncing my iPhone 3GS with iTunes on my laptop.

I've had the phone a couple of weeks and previously have never owned a iPod/used iTunes before buying it.

I am running iTunes version 9.0.1.8 on Windows Vista Home Premium (machine is a dual core Pentium T2310 with 2Gb RAM).

The phone software is version 3.1.

The phone works fine when not connected to the computer.

The problem I am having is when syncing the phone. The phone begins to sync but often stops halfway through.

When the phone begins to sync it normally syncs bookmarks, applications etc. fine but then stops when I try and upload music to it. It will very often copy a few tracks and then freeze completely. Very often none of the music will have successfully copied over.

I have tried copying artists individually by checking the albums one at a time (rather then automatically sync the entire content) however the problem persists.

I have successfully copied some tracks but have only managed to successfully copy a few albums.

When it fails to copy music, one of the following error messages appears:

“iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)”

“The iPhone “Phil’s iPhone” cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found.

“iPhone timed out. Disk cannot be read from or written to.”

Sometimes no error message pops up and the software just jams completely.

When this happens, the phone goes from the 'Sync in Progress' screen to the main menu.

This is the second iPhone I have had this problem with. The first I returned to the store because of this problem. The second is behaving I exactly the same way.

As you can imagine this is extremely frustating as I can't really use the phone to its full capacity.

Please help me someone!

It could quite possibly be the cable you are using to connect the two devices. I have noticed that I will sometimes get this error when I use one of my old cables (from an old 80GB iPod) instead of the newer one that came with my phone. If you don't have any other options for cables, talk to a Genius about swapping your cable out for another in the store... Hopefully that can resolve your problem.

Thanks for the reply.

Regrettably I can rule that out. The supplier replaced the cable as well as the phone when I reported the problem first time around.

I too had the error come up one my iphone. The error repeatedly reoccurred on the same song. My solution was deleting the song that specific song that i theorized to have created the error also ending the error. If it keeps happening, I would try deleting all the songs that seem to cause the error and re-downloading the song again. I hope this works for you as it did for me.

Thought I'd cured it by adjusting the power settings on my laptop to maximum to avoid the USB powering off, but alas no - the problem persists.

Just tried a full reinstall of iTunes as well. No joy.

Now deleted the entire library and am resyncing albums one by one. But yet STILL the problems persist.

Severely pissed off at the moment and tempted to forget the whole thing and get a Blackberry.

Try turning off your firewall and sync again.

I found some advice on another site by googling "0xE8000065" and saw that reinstalling iTunes worked as well as
The solution I found is connect your Iphone to your computer.
Just let it work out it's routine (you probably will get the error again).

Than: switch off your Iphone and restart it without breaking the connection.

Everything should work again properly...
I am not sure if I can post a link to another forum..??

I hope this works. Also, I had a similar problem with syncing my phone to my computer and switching to the newer cable worked for me. Are you using a cable that came with an older iPod by and chance?

Seems to be a pretty complicated problem that occurs with only PCs. I found this as well.
