problem backing up

ok, im trying to backup my iphone before i try a jailbreak and it wont work. im working on windows and when i go into the preferences there are no backed up iphones so i do a sync. after a few seconds it stops and i go back into the preferences and nothing is there. tried rebooting both the computer and the iphone and still no luck. i thought it was suppose to automatically make a backup when you sync?

What kind of backup are you trying to perform?
You can't backup your iPhone directly with iTunes.
You can try to access your iPhone's contents with SSH and a FTP client such as FileZilla but the simplest way is to use CopyTrans http://www.copytrans.net or any of these tools http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/art...d-to-computer/
