Angry iPhone / Outlook 2003 Calendar Sync Problem Solved

I was having the Outlook 2003 / iPhone sync issue too, but just with the calendar. The contacts was working OK.

After trying all these tips, I finally did the "Detect & Repair" suggestion, and then downloaded and reinstalled (repaired) iTunes. This seems to have fixed the calendar sync problem . I did notice that I had one LESS of the "COM ADD-INS" when I went back into Outlook's "Advanced Options." The one less "COM ADD-INS" had nothing to do with iTunes, so I'm guessing this was the conflict.

A word of advice on the Contacts...the phone number "type" you give numbers can prevent certain numbers from syncing. Three types I noticed won't sync w/iPhone are: Assistant, Company and ISDN. There may be others, but that's what I've discovered thus far. To fix this, just alter the "type."

Thumbs up

ok..we are all in the same boat..
I don't understand why some people are getting some of it to sync though..and others like me...nothing.
Very frustrating.. I live with my calendar as well...
Apple is looking for a solution but so far nothing..
Please if anyone hears of anything throw it out here..
I've tried all the things that some of you have mentioned...still nothing..
My error is during the Sync..it will sync contacts, photos, music perfectly..but it says ''ITUNES could not sync the calendar because the IPHONE disconnected'...anyone else get this???

Unhappy Synch Outlook with iPhone

You need to export your outlook contacts and save them as a CSV file (e.g. to your desktop). Then under Start; All Programs; Accessories, go to address book. Select file; then import from the saved location.

Then in the iTunes Synch choose Windows Address Book (Not Yahoo or Outlook); Apply and then Synch

Don't bother asking any Microsoft forums or help desks - they're very bitter and snooty these days

Yeah, I was unable to get it to sync with my Outlook 2003. I did the Yahoo solution... which put double contacts on my phone which I had to go through all 300 of them one by one and delete the dupes. I wish could directly access your contacts through your PC and edit them and not have to use the phone.

So I moved everything over to my Macbook thinking that Apple would have at least tested the sync functionality with Entourage. I was wrong. It came closer, but it still doesn't work. I have one calendar appointment out of the thousands... the weekly reminder for me to log my time in our time entry system. The other appointments didn't get transfered to the iPhone.

That's two for two... no XP/Outlook and no OSX/Entourage... Frustrating!

Default Outlook Sync Problem

I'm running Vista Business and Outlook 2007. I have had no problem syncing my mail, pictures, music, bookmarks or music to my iPhone. I cannot, however, sync Outlook Calendar from my PC to the iPhone (same as others here). If I enter an event in my iPhone, it will show up on my PC after I sync. If I delete that event from my PC, it will disappear from my iPhone. None of the other events on my Outlook Calendar will show up on the iPhone, though.
I have spoken with Apple twice and went through all of the troubleshooting steps they talked me through, then finally uninstalled iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support and reinstalled it. Same result. While the people at Apple were easy to reach and tried hard to help, they had no clue of what else to do. They also said that they have had no other complaints about the sync issues (so now I know they are full of it). They suggested that I contact Microsoft, so I did. Here is what they responded with:

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Support. My name is Stella and I will be assisting you with this Service Request. To contact me, you may directly send emails to my account v-stezh@microsoft.com with the case ID: 1038815559 in the subject line.

After reviewing the case log, I understand that you are experiencing issues when trying to synchronize Apple iphone with Outlook 2007. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

Based on the current situation, this issue may occur in various situations. Let's perform the following steps to narrow down this issue and resolve it. Your patience and cooperation will be appreciated.

Step 1: Temporarily uninstall all Anti-Virus programs or firewalls
==================================================
Based on my research, this issue may be related to some types of firewalls, such as freedom firewall or Norton internet security 2002 firewall. Therefore, if you have installed any Anti-Virus programs or firewalls, please temporarily uninstall all the firewalls and Anti-Virus programs to see if it is helpful in resolving this problem.

Note: In order to prevent virus attack during this process, please first run a complete virus check and disconnect from the network before you disable the anti-virus. If the problem persists after you remove the programs, please reinstall them to keep the system integrity.

Does this problem continue? If so, please perform next step. Otherwise, please stop here and let me know the result.

Step 2: Create a new profile in Outlook 2007
==================================================
A new profile is a new environment for us to use Outlook. To create a new profile is only for a test to see if the problem is related to the corrupt profile of Outlook. Creating new profile will not do any damage to the old profile.

1. Close Outlook. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2. Click Switch to Classic View, and then click the Mail icon.

3. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click the Show Profiles button.

4. On the General tab, click to select the Prompt for a profile to be used check box.

5. Click Add.

6. In the Profile Name box, type a descriptive name for the new profile, and then click OK.

7. In the Add New E-mail Accounts dialog box, clickMicrosoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, and then Click Next.

8. Fill in the appropriate information as prompted, and then Click Next and Finish as needed.

9. Click OK.

10. Restart Outlook and select the new profile in the popup window.

If you need more information, please follow the article below:

Q829918How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;829918

Note: this article also applies to Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007.

Is the problem resolved now? If so, we can import the original data to the new profile. Please refer to the following article:

Q287070 OL2002: How to Back Up, Restore, or Move Outlook Data
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;287070

Note: this article also applies to Outlook 2003/2007.

What's the result now?

If the issue persists, at this point, we need to collect more information to narrow down this issue.
  • Could you please let me know what synchronization application you are using now?
  • For further research, could you please help me take the screenshot of all problematic views or error message that you encountered:
How to capture screenshots
==================================================
  • Press the Print Screen key ( PrtScn ) in your keyboard.
  • Click Start, click Run, type MSPAINT, and click OK.
  • In Paintopen box, click Edit à Paste, and then click File à Save.
  • Type the file name for the snap shot, in the down draw list of Save as type, choose JPEG as the file type. click Save.
  • Please send me this JPG file as an email attachment.
Please try the above steps, and update me with the results at your earliest convenience. If you need additional information on this issue, feel free to let me know. It is my pleasure to be of assistance.

If this is what I have to go through to fix it, it's just not worth all the work or the risk of messing up something else on my computer. I'll wait until someone realizes that there is a problem (if ever) and gives a definitive solution. It might be Apple's problem or Microsoft's, but I would think that Apple would try to figure this out if they want to sell their goal of 10 million iPhones by the end of next year.

Good luck to all!

P.S. I love the iPhone!!!!!

I did everything you have listed... after speaking with Apple and I still cannot sync Contacts. I was able to sync calendar - once. But it appears that there is a conflict with Plaxo and iPhone's plugins. If I have plaxo installed - even calendar sync fails.

Does anyone know if there is a size limit on the number of contacts. I have over 3400 contacts and my bet is that apple wasn't thinking about larger or complex address books.

P.S. I like it a lot, but without a sync'd calendar and contact db it kinda misses the mark as a "smart" phone.
