well, my family does have a paid-for *@msn.com account... so maybe that is allowing me to forward to non-microsoft emails?

Talking Hotmail forwarding frustration!

Hi, you used to be able to do this certainly as I used it all the time - Hotmail to Googlemail but as one of the other posters says, you can no longer do this - this is quite a recent thing, only in the past month or so (it's now 19th August). I think it's something to do with a security issue and Hotmail/MSN. This is somewhat frustrating as it would be so nice to be able to check all my email accounts (and I currently have about 7!) but this cannot now be done - at least, not Hotmail. You can forward Hotmail accounts to another MSN/Live account but still you can't get MSN/Live on the iPhone - at least, as far as I'm aware, presumably because the iPhone is an Apple product and not Microsoft and there would probably be a conflict of interest there between the two companies! If anyone does know of another way, do let us all know but as previously said, you can no longer set up Hotmail to forward to a non-MSN/Live email account - not sure what MS are playing at here, probably all to do with release of iPhone 3G!!!!!

I just tried and was able to have Hotmail (free version) forward to my GMail account. No problems. Sent a message from my office Outlook as well as from my iPhone to my Hotmail acct and both were forwarded as expected.

Thanks! I tried this, setting up a new free Hotmail account (without the additional MS Live add-ons) and still this does not work - it simply does not allow you to forward emails to another email address unless it ends in .live.com, .msn.com or hotmail.com/co.uk etc... I'm now even more confused and perplexed!!! However, thanks for your response anyway!

I'm so confused - being blonde doesn't help!!! Please can you expand on how you managed to set this up because I simply cannot see how? I've gone into Hotmail/Options/Forward email to another account and I typed in my Googlemail address and you get an error message saying that you can only forward to another MSN, Live or Hotmail address, not anything ending with anything else!!! I've tried on the paid and non-paid versions! HELP!!

Best
