Computer crashed now I need a step by step so I don't screw it up....
My laptop completly died and after taking it to the repair shop I'm going to have to buy a new one. Actually I was already trying to decide what to buy and when to buy it but my 4 year old HP decided for me today.
My big question is since I'm going to install a new iTunes and new Outlook on the new PC computer and I remember seeing where you can overide the phone during sync, Is there any way to overide the computer when I do my first sync so I don't lose all the data on my phone when it syncs with the new Outlook ? Is there a way to backup the data on my phone before I do anything ? Remember my phone is unbroken and not JB'd either with version 3.0.1.

when you plug up your iphone, once it starts to sync hurry up and cancel it by moving your slider. Once you do that check the box in itunes that makes it not sync when it once plugs in.
I've been using iTunes for a bit and understand how it usually works that's exactly why I'm asking what I asked in my first post. I will unchecked the autosync but then what about the rest of my question?

Thanks. I got it all up and running smooth now (trial and error and lots of praying) on a brand new laptop. Also now doing 2 daily backups, one to flash and another to an external drive. This is NOT going to happen to me again! I mean not the computer crashing but at least I'm not going to lose my data again.

Glad to hear you're back up and running

I'm not sure how you fixed your problem reading the link provided by KabaModern.
Well I have the same problem, but I did not found the perfect solution yet. My computer Hard Drive simply died the other day. Now I am with my iPhone, loaded with music, videos, games (ALSO saved games, which I never see anyone talking about, but personally I think it would suck so much if I would loose my saved games of Zenonia!!! - including all my iFitness data or any other Apps data), Lyrics of songs, and maybe others I don't think of right now.
So I did a lot of google searches and within this forum also. Here is what I found to start fresh to a new computer:
Note: Old was a PC, my new is a MacBook now.
1- New iTunes is logged in with my account info and it is authorized (2 out of 5 used now)
2- I de-activated the Auto-Sync feature in iTunes -> Preferences -> Devices tab -> Check option "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
3- I plugged in my iPhone to the MacBook iTunes and now I have the small icon Devices of my iPhone on the left.
4- Right-clicking the icon I clicked on "Transfer Purchases". This option is nice as it fills all your Music-Movies-Applications-etc section with everything you bought using iTunes. So you don't need to remember what you have bought with iTunes (But it seems like it only transfer what is on your iPhone... so if you bought a movie 2 years ago and remove it from your iPhone, which is logical, you may not remember that you purchased it.... SAME thing with application).
5- I right-clicked again on my device's icon and choose the option "Backup". This is a very looooooong process. I think the first backup takes so much time to do.... and after that it is fast.
6- For the music and movies that was not transferred, it is ok. I will use a software to manually do it.
Now there I am. I have some questions that I am unable to find any answers with my research:
1- The current list of application on my iPhone is not my "real" list. I did download a lot more software and decided to delete them from my iPhone but not from my iTunes, because perhaps a new update will make it a nice to have later. Is there a way to get back all that list of bought apps?
2- Same question applies for Movies or music. What if I want my list of bought Movies back on my new iTunes? Any way to do so?
3- Now that I made a backup of my iPhone, does it include my song Lyrics, App data, Playlists?
4- Before I click the ZE sync button in iTunes, do I need to make sure that I took everything from my iPhone (using 3rd party software) and copied it back to my library? Once again, if I take a song from my iPhone, add it again to my library, will I have my Lyric back?
