Default WiFi anywhere?

Can you use the WiFi on the iphone anywhere that has WiFi? like starbucks? just anywhere that has open wifi?

Yes, if it finds a Wifi point it will ask if you want to join it

I have been confused about whether it's free or for pay so I called AT&T about this and they said since iPhone users on unlimited data plan then we should be able to access them easily.

As an FYI at&t has nothing to say about it. Even if you canceled your service with at&t you would still be able to use open hotspots.

What you can't do is use non-open hotspots without the key or pay-to-use hotspots without an account (certain airports, T-Mobile hotspots, etc.).

You can use it anywhere thats not secured or ones that dont make you pay first like mcdonalds and tmobile hotspots etc.. lol

That'an EDGE issue not WiFi, but no, the iPhone can't be used as a modem. At least not yet.
