If you just bought the phone and its not working I believe you have 30days of apple technical support you should try to call apple and make it there problem. Sounds like you have already done everything. How old is the phone? Exact purchase date? If it's within 30 days you can call apple and get free telephone support thats what I always do if I have a problem apple has great customer service. You should not have to be going through all this trouble man. I feel for ya I have had back luck with my new 21.5" iMac all week. Goodluck to you bro.

Make sure that your router is updated to it's latest firmware.

Do you have a password set in your router? If so, try changing it. If not, try setting one. Sometimes that helps.

Just return that netgear pos and get a Linksys wireless router. I've had mine for 6 years and it still works great.

I use a Netgear with no issue. That shouldn't be the problem.

what's going on with the phone? make sure the wi-fi switch is turned on and check if your router comes up in the list...

also as a plus make sure the switch where it asks to join network is on too.

update WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW I got it going at last

to all that have read my cry for help, and gave me much to read up on never had so many web pages open at one time looking up every thing I read here.
so not to leave anyone out Ill just say that you all that have posted a reply.
I will just add I have a linksys router and I never did get that to work but that was on my pc.
Ok every thing was turned on and was working, I did two thing that I did before but I did them the other way round, and I dont know if thats what made it work I just Bloody glad it is I can go to bed now.

I reset modem, router, setting much the same as before from what I can remember.
This time I added the name of phone, and mac address, in router setting.
then I went into itunes and reset updated phone, for the fist time ever Itunes
gave me a option to enter a name in for my phone, and I think it was this that in the end that made it all work.

I have now backed up my setting in my router, and have a config file saved on mem card for later use if all goes pear shape at any point, Dont know how to backup iphone for a restore.

I dont know if it will be any help to upload all setting from phone and router that I have set for anyone but ill write them all out and keep for myself and if any one wants them Ill post.

So thanks again for all your help
