You know if the RAM was upgraded that Jobs would have mentioned it, just like he did with the cpu. The website doesnt mention RAM at all.

I think I can have mine delivered. I stood online even with a pre-order for the iphone 4... While I had a blast, I really am too old for this. Once was a great experience.

they have never mentioned or listed ram on any iOS device. I guarantee you they upgraded it to at least 512 to match the iPhone.

Im sure it won't be but I still don't want to risk it. Hopefully your right about the reserve deal. I would love to reserve one on the morning of March 11th then just walk into a store later that afternoon after work and pick it up! How did it work for the first one? Was there a option for delivery or reserve (store pickup)?

IF the RAM is upped, I do think that would have been mentioned too. Maybe their saving that for the 11th ?? 'oh by the way... It also has xxx amount of RAM'
    Unlikely but we can dream.

I was just going to get the iPad 1st version when everyone upgraded but wow. I think I will suck it up and get the iPad 2G. I work at different bases so having the ability to have 1080p movies on my iPad and watch them wherever I may be will be enough of a motivator to me. Also the higher GB storage will be a definite plus for me too.

I really hope Apple will do the pre-order PRIOR to the March 11 date. My finger is all ready to hit the buy now button. and yes...I will be purchasing the new one... just watching the liveblog of the announcement gave me multiple orgasms #i'mjustsaying

The first one you could reserve to pick up in the store that day or delivered to your home the same day. It was ideal. And although it was fun and the reserve line was awesome ( in and out of Apple store in 15 min.) I can definitely see lines starting very early for a free for all first come first serve thing. Even though it's second gen. there are people all over Twitter and Internet making their plans. I will need to have the patience to wait on the delivery.

You know, this was a little disappointing, Its good enough for me to order, but they didn't surprise me with anything. Steve...no mention of RAM?
The ipad 3 will be out before anyone makes use of dual core(Which is a good thing ...can you say battery drain?), but the RAM? That's what matters!

Cmon really?:022:really When I find out its got 1GB of RAM I'm in. If its less then I'll see what the new price of the ipad 1 is and maybe get one of those. Damn they annoy me!

(Chex starts daydreaming about the June keynote...:2cool:)

apple never mentions anything about RAM on iOS devices.

dual-core doesn't automatically mean battery drain. In fact, many dual-core CPUs can be more energy efficient than single-core CPUs. And they specifically said the battery life is the same as a v1.

If you play a game...like "Infinity Blade 2" that utilizes both cores. It will drain the crap out of the battery! 100% guaranteed. The 10hr batterry life is for everything not game oriented, video, browsing, music and so on.

I know they never mention RAM, it baffles me. But then I guess they don't care about us techies. I am not overly concerned yet...they didn't mention RAM @ the i4 event, yet we were all pleased to get 512MB. Which at this point is constantly being used up on my i4.

Of course it will drain the battery more. But NOT necessarily more than an A4.

Additionally, there may even be a bigger battery in iPad 2 to compensate for higher-powered hardware.

not sure what you mean by that, but here's a deeper explanation:

Firstly, we can't just assume an A5 processor is just two A4s slapped together. In addition to being dual-core, most processor companies also improve on energy efficiency by leaps and bounds every year. Just look at the CPU and battery life in the v1 iPhone... WITHOUT running and hardcore games like Infinity Blade.

Secondly, energy efficiency will be improved the most during general use (especially when multitasking, which is what everyone wants in a phone/tablet now). The OS will be able to split processes between cores, which lowers the overall voltage needed, which also improves energy efficiency.

Thirdly, I'm not a developer, so I can't be sure, but I seriously doubt any iOS apps are (or even will soon be) multi-threaded to completely take over both CPU cores. So why bother with dual cores at all then? Multiasking.

All of this means energy efficiency with a dual-core processor should be as-good or better-than a single-core.

I will keep my iPad 1. No reason at all to upgrade. This is the same trend over and over again. I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid anymore.
