I have a feeling Steve is going to drop the "available today" bomb next Monday. This is just my guesstimate.

I've had the same feeling all along and it got stronger earlier today when I heard about AT&T's data plan changes effective June 7...

It's possible, I suppose, but it would probably be a logistical nightmare. At the very least, could you see all those nerds attending the WWDC stampeding for the doors as soon as Steve Jobs concludes the announcement of the new iPhone? It would be like The Simpsons' Comic Book Guy x1000.

I would also like to know about the new iPhone insurance plan. I also need some clarification on what I'm going to be doing on the 7th? I'm buying my new iPhone from AT&T and I'm using a full upgrade. Do I need to be in line at the AT&T store early to pre order it or is it going to be for sale at that time? Do I order from AT&T.com? This is my first time getting a new shiny toy on iday lol. I'm usually way behind the trend.

    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/05/28...-on-june-6th-13-99-per-month-plus-deductible/

I believe it's still a rumor at this point, at least parts of the story are. Still, they're saying it'll be $13.99/month with a rather large deductible up-front depending on which phone you'll be insuring (3GS, 4th Gen, 16 GB, 32 GB, etc.).

There is certainly no hard evidence that June 7th will positively be this year's iDay. Jobs usually makes his speech at the beginning of WWDC. Toward the end of that speech, he'll give us the official details about release dates, which are usually several weeks after WWDC. As such, you should probably just be watching the live feeds of the WWDC event at gizmodo, engadget, etc. and possibly trying to find a live video/audio stream like we do every year. I know that's what I'll be doing. There's no reason to be lining up at an AT&T store until the end of Jobs' speech when he officially announces the release date.

It was only 11 days last year.

Well that's certainly more than one week, and we had to wait over a month for the 3G to be released after the official WWDC announcement. There is certainly plenty of speculation that the wait time between the WWDC announcement and the official release will be short this year, but exactly how short the wait will be is still just speculation.

I completely agree. However, at least it covers theft and loss, whereas SquareTrade doesn't.

Here it is in a nutshell:

I agree with Europa on this one. I think that the time between the announcement and the product release date will be very short again this year because of the increased competition from other cell phone platforms. Android phones are walking out the door in great numbers, and the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 phones will probably also do a decent amount of business. Apple no longer has the luxury of leisurely releasing its iPhone product, knowing that it has no competition. Those days are over.

I completely forgot that 4.0 still needs to be released. No way would Apple consider doing that on the same day as a hardware release. Their servers would be crippled horribly. So I think they'll probably release 4.0 on the 7th and then release the hardware a week later on the 14th

    Hey Guys & Ladies,

Quick question for someone who bought the 3G & 3GS on previously pre order release days...How does that work? When Apple allows the pre orders to begin how long does the pre order stay open and close? Once I do the pre order do they send out the phone on the same day over night shipping or do they wait until the phone comes later in the month? I know its been discussed before in a previous thread. I wanted to make sure I understand correctly.

I never said the wait wouldn't be short, just that exactly how short the wait will be is not confirmed. I was responding to a guy who was talking about lining up at an AT&T store on June 7th, my main point being that he should not do that until there is an official announcement.

My guess is 4.0 on the 16th and hardware on the 18th.
