hi all when do you think we will find ou the finer details of mobile me, for example has it the abiltlity to 'reply from' when responding to an email. Will full specs come out rather than the usual 'apple video' from the 'sales guys' or will we have to wait on the usual see the short comings from user experiences. Dont get me wrong i love the sound of mobile me but why oh why can't the just give us the clear specs.
Once it's released, you can try it out and mess around all day with it. Hopefully won't have to wait until Jul 11!
Mobile me is just an update of .mac. I am not sure what you mean by "does is have the ability to reply from." I use .mac now, but not all of the features.
You do not have to wait! You can get a .mac account now and start using it right away. It will have the added push features when it flips to mobile me.
I think what he means is will he have an opportunity to select which email address to send a message from...say from either .mac or .me. I'm only hoping my aliases will remain and/or switch to .me aliases.
I think you can chose. I just do not know if the choice is fixed or flexible. If you get mail sent to yourname@mac.com or yourname@me.com both will go to your mailbox.
hi all what I mean is will you be able to reply from a choosen authenitic email address. For example gmail allows me to reply from any other email address I own. I doesn't have to be linked to gmail it can even be my work email. My biggest problem with mobile me would be a change of email address. With a reply from option I could forward my email from my gmail to my @me address recieving it on my iPhone and then 'reply from' a choosen address (in my case gmail) . This enables me to have the push option without having to change my email address.
Now I understand. I think this is a basic feature that should be included, but I do not know the answer. I think if you cannot have the reply from another email address (ie yourname@gmail.com), a lot of people will not want to pay for the service. I will do some investigating and see if I can find the answer.
I assume that if you can do that with macmail now you can do it with the mobile me mail. I just have not done any googling or experimenting yet. Maybe someone else here knows. I have not used my macmail much, I got the .mac account to make a web gallery and family web site. I will try to mess with it later and let you know. With the push feature with the mobile me update, I am planning on using my macmail more.
I went in my macmail and poked around a little. I found this and copied it for you, irobot: Checking a second email account You can use .Mac Mail on the web to check a separate POP email account in addition to your .Mac Mail account. To receive mail from an external POP account: If you're not already using .Mac Mail on the web, go to www.mac.com, click Mail (at the top of the page), and then log in. Click the Preferences link in the upper-right corner. Click the Other button. Select the checkbox next to "Check mail from an external POP account," then type the account's email address, mail server name, and user name and password in the text fields provided. Choose an option from the Destination Folder pop-up menu. Select the checkbox next to "Leave Messages on server" if you want to leave the original messages on the POP host server so you can still read them when you access the account directly. Click Save at the bottom of the Other pane. After you have configured an external POP account, a link to check mail for this account will appear below your folders in the left pane of .Mac Mail. When you click this link, any new messages the account has received are delivered to the .Mac Mail destination folder you specified. I hope this helps you out!
I was thinking we are sure to see mobile me arrive before 2.0 and iPhone v2. Wont apple want their mobile me subscribers showing off their 'exchange for the rest of us' on iDay 2.
This works great for getting email from another source, such as Gmail, but the pretty sure that you can not reply from that email. Basically all your replies and outgoing messages show up coming from the .mac account. I haven't used that option in quite some time now, unless they have changed it there is still no way that I know of to actually have the reply show up as coming from the Gmail account.
