I have seen a couple of people talk about losing their visual voicemail after adding the custom ipcc file to get mms and tethering on 3.0. My Visual Voicemail works on 3.0, but I would get the messages pretty slow. I just saw this on another forum and tried it, tested my visual voicemail and it came through very quickly. The slowness may have been an AT&T thing, maybe not, either way if yours doesn't work at all, there is no harm in trying this.

    In Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network

Under voicemail...it it says wap.cingular change it to acds.voicemail and restart your phone.

You can always put it back to wap.cingular if it doesn't work.

Where were you last night when I spent 2 hours on the phone with ATT while they tried to trouble shoot and had no clue what they were doing. My voicemails were coming in 5-10 mins later or sometimes not at all. This little update in my settings and now I get my voicemail within 30 secs. Awesome.... thx!

Thanks! got my VM back! Any way you can walk me through the proper settings for MMS? I get the camera icon and can take a pic, but it fails to send??? I have the family unlimited texting plan too with non-iPhones that can send MMS.

It just shows you how much people who work in customer service really know about their jobs. Tech Support is a joke at many companies, even my own which we outsource. It's sad when you have to tell the Tech Support how to resolve the issue because they have the authorization and you don't!

shutter13 is extremely helpful to everyone on these forums and I think it's only right that whoever this thread has helped, please thank him.

gotzaiPhone, here's what I had to do to make MMS work.

I have an unlocked Nokia E71, but my understanding is that ANY GSM phone will do, as long as it works on AT&T. You can buy a cheap Nokia pay-as-you-go phone for about $10 that will work. You need to pull the SIM card from your iPhone and plug it into the non-iPhone. Wait some time, make a couple test phone calls to ensure it's working.

AT&T knows what phone you're using (model wise) and will allow or block certain services appropriately (such as MMS messaging). The hacked carrier profile which enables tethering and MMS also disables the model reporting agent, so the iPhone no longer updates AT&T as to what model of phone it is.

The idea is that by using the non-iPhone, AT&T will update what it thinks you are using to be a non-iPhone. At that point, you can then plug the SIM back into the iPhone and your MMS messages will go through. How do you know what that point in time is? Since my non-iPhone supports MMS as well, I kept trying to send an MMS until it went through. That's when you know.

And now my iPhone tethers, does MMS, and my Visual Voicemail works.

    Thanks for the VVM tip!

Fix for Visual Voicemail seems to disable tethering?

So the fix for visual voicemail worked well -- but when I went back to turn the tethering on, after I switched it on, it went back to the "Network" page and the tethering option was gone.

Any fix for that? Am I doing something out of order?

thats what my buddy told me to do too, but he also said that at&t is re-locking him out every few days. I don't feel its worth it to go through that every few days when i very RARELY send MMS' and I'm worried that at&t thinking I have a different phone will screw up me upgrading to a 3GS next week. But thanks for the info, I'm sure it will help others!

I've been trying to get my visual voicemail to work all afternoon, and after entering acds.cingular didn't do anything at all to help, i was able to get it working again by restoring and setting up as a new phone.

I activated tethering a week ago by downloading a cert from help.benm.at. This worked great but I could not access VVM unless I removed the cert. I tried the "fix" of Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings but that never fixed anything after a restart.

I decided to completly remove the cert from help.benm.at and download the AT&T 5.0 file. So I changed my carrier settings via iTunes. Now tethering works well but NO VVM.

I would like to try your VVM fix but I CANNOT access "Cellular Data Settings" either. To change these settings must you jailbreak your phone? P-P-P-Please help! How can we edit our APN settings?

I put my sim in an old RAZR, made a few calls, sent a few texts, sent a few MMS, then put sim back in my iPhone and MMS works. How long do you think it will work? I have the 5.0 carrier file installed, BTW.

Whch version of the carrier file will stop reporting which phone you have back to att and where can we get it?

UPDATE: I did this again except with an unlocked nokia. Did the SIM swap stuff. Previously I did this using an att fuze with no success. Now it is working. I have been sending MMS's for the past 45 minutes. Hope it sticks. I currently have the at&t 5.0 carrier file. I also never rebooted my phone. I just did the swap while the phone was on. I have heard of some people having it stop working after a re-boot. Not sure how true this is or not. Also, is there a carrier file that is out there that will NOT tell at&t you have the iphone again..? Or atleast not allow the mms to be blocked again..? Thanks guys! Now watch, they will make MMS offical for at&t tomorrow! LOL
