    What's the current firmware on the phone?

    If it's 4.0.1 it can be done right now :)

    If the basebands been updated it won't be able to be unlocked. The OP can either use jailbreakme.com or Greenpois0n or Limera1n.

    Where do you plan on buying one from used or new? Only reason I am asking is because if you go to Apple or ATT and just buy one its probably going to come with 4.1 I would assume or even maybe a lower firmware version depending on how much stock they have.

    No, if it was updated to a stock 4.1 or 4.2 in iTunes. Yes, if it's on 4.0, 4.0.1 or 4.0.2.

    Can a stock never been jail broken iPhone 4g with the latest 4.2 update be jail broken. Or do I have to wait for a new version to come out. If so how do I l do it.

    If it's not too far for you, Canadian Apple store is factory unlocked and therefore remains unlocked regardless of version of iOS and JB.
