I'd venture a strong guess at Spring when the next iPhone will most likely be launched. We haven't got word on a 4.0 SDK for developers yet which indicates if they announce it soon hopefully it will be ready by the time the new iPhone is launched.

What about factory referb phones... I just had to send my original 3gS into apple and they replaced it with a referb.... is there a way to look at the s/n or do I have to use the method mentioned in the first post....?

    thanks

You should most likely receive a slip or sticker with the serial number of the new iPhone with it. If not, you can use the DFU-mode method, or just simply activate it and try running blackra1n right away and see the results.

I have just purchased a 16g 3gs Jailbroken on 3.1.2 off of ebay for my wife, I have since found out from the seller that the phone is tethered and needs to be reset to blackra1n on powerdown..

I have a 32g 3gs already jailbroken on Blackra1n, my worry is that on reset of the 16g that blackra1n will not reconise the 16g, only my 32g??? and then have to connect to itunes???

Is the 16g synced to his blackra1n??

Seller has offered me money back,

    Any help much apprieciated

I'm trying to find out whether my 3G is gonna need a tethered or un-tethered jailbreak but when I try and find the bootrom version it doesn't show up in device manager. It has all the other string but misses out [iBoot: whatever]

I've tried finding it in DFU mode and in recovery mode, but they both miss it out, so I'm out of ideas.
I used f0recast and it said "maybe tethered; depends if refurbished" and the 3rd, 4th and 5th numbers of my serial are 010 :s

    Can anyone help?

No way. By the name conventions that would mean your iPhone was made this year, week 10. If your device is running firmware 3.1.3, you're out of luck anyway.

    3.1.3 with serial 922

    Iphone with 3rd, 4th & 5th digit in serial number below 939 (889224Q43NP).
    Currently running version 3.1.3.
    Can it be jailbroken (untethered)?

The serial number is a good indicator - but the easiest way to check is to try it. Back it up, close iTunes, run Sn0wbreeze, try and reboot. If it works, your untethered. If not, just restore from your backup. Im presuming you have an iPhone 3gs BTW

    I know - I meant Sn0wbreeze, not blackra1n - I edited my original post.

Wow, the first touch i had had a tethered serial. Then i had to get it replaced, and i got one with what looks like a untethered serial.
