Yeah, last night I asked him how he likes his iPod now that it's jailbroken and he asked me why he gets the connect to iTunes image and has to rerun blackra1n every time he reboots. I said, "Whoa, you have a tethered jailbreak. I thought that only happened to the new 3GS iPhones." He didn't seem to mind at all though.

I was helping a friend of mine with his 16gb iTouch last night, think it's a first gen, and man that thing was slow. Made me appreciate my 3GS(even if it is tethered) that much more.

Is it a 3gs? I am not going to tell you what to do. This whole thread explains it.

If you just want to tether then do what I did. Download blackrain and follow the steps, it's freakin easy. Then install Cydia and search for a program called pdanet. Install it to the iphone and go here and install it on your laptop/pc

This is the program for your computer.
    http://www.junefabrics.com/desktop/

Once installed on both iphone and pc just click the pdanet on your iphone and right click the program on the bottom right of your screen (its the new program running that's by the time) and click CONNECT.

I just did this and Best Western is actually slower than my 3G connection. But the only down fall to it is the latency. It takes a few seconds to get going. But here's my connection

And I'm right by O'hare so I'm not really 550 miles away.

I know this sounds like a noobish question but if i jailbreak (teathered) will i loose all apps and settings when the phone restarts and i need to run blackra1n to boot the phone up. And also can i backup iphone when cracked apps are installed???

    Thanks in advance!!!

Also anyone any news on a unteathered jailbreak for the new iboot???

    Regards Danny:dft010:smiling

No, you won't lose anything. Blackra1n is just booting the iPhone, nothing more.

Discussion of cracked applications is not allowed on this forum. Sorry.

No, there is no untethered jailbreak and you will most likely not see one until 4.0 is released.

Thankyou for the speedy reply and im sorry i was unaware i was unable to discuss cracked apps so sorry for that.

I only just got my new iphone a week ago and was unaware that to jailbreak i had to be on 3.1.2 and i updated the phone as soon as i got it but i quickly found out that i was unable to jailbreak so i cancelled my contrat and ordered a new one so this time i will not update and just have to install the untethered jailbreak.

You said that there will not be an untethered version available for the new iboot unti 4.0 is released i take it this will be when the new iphone is released? Any ideas on when this may be then. And i read that there is some kind of app you can get that resets the phone without a full reboot cause as i understand certain things you do on the iphone rquire a restart and it would be a pain if you were out and not near a computer to reboot the phone. do you know the name of this so i can do some research into it before my new iphone arrives on monday im just trying to get everything in order so i know exactly what im doin when it arrives!

Again Kind regards and thanks in advance for any replies

    Danny

There is certainly no guarantee that a new untethered jailbrake will be developed after the next generation iPhone and O/S are released. I think that most of us here are hoping that this jailbrake comes shortly after the release, but you never know how hard Apple has made it to jailbrake until these guys get their hands on it. It could take weeks or months, who knows? :dft002:amazed

I've heard of no such app. When I had a tethered jailbrake, I was just very careful to not install or update jailbroken apps except when I was at my computer :dft012:wink

There is no guarantee, obviously but the hackers won't start working on an untethered solution until the next major OS release. There's no point in them finding a hole in the current bootrom and then releasing a jailbreak for it when 4.0 is right around the corner and Apple could patch it before they release 4.0.
