Would I be correct to assume that you cannot transfer music files(mp3) to a 2nd Generation Ipod Shuffle like you would do with any flash drive from a folder in your computer, to the Ipod without going through iTunes software? The Ipod in question only plays one tune and will not play any other. I found that one tune in a folder F003 under Ipod control folder. I tried copy and paste other mp3's to that same folder, F003, and it still won't play the new transferred files, only the one that came with the Ipod. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Yes, you need iTunes.

Thanks greemie for your response. So far, everything I have found about this ipod shuffle (2nd Gen) seems to indicate that. I guess I just need additional conformation. Thanks again.

Update: I went ahead and loaded iTunes and indeed it loaded the Ipod with the music files I was trying to add. Worked like a champ. Thanks again for your response.
