Wrote one of the hardest letters I've ever written today. After 26.5 years, I filed the paperwork for my retirement from the FD effective April 30th. Scary as hell to be honest. I have pretty much had 2 jobs & 1 career in my working life. A convenience type store, a pizza place and my career in the fire service. Everyone tells me I'm just starting a new chapter in my life.... It better be one heck of a book, that's for sure. LOL

That is awesome Scott. I would like to thank you for all of the years of service in the FD. I can't imagine all of the people that you have helped through the years.

Thanks. It's been a pretty emotionally rough day today and more to do tomorrow. The person who starts the filing process had already gone home for the day by the time I got done talking with the Chief. I'm hoping to be able to stay active with them in another way, but out of the actual line operations, riding in an engine, etc...

Just read an article about the USPS. You guys still have post offices? In Canada I haven't seen one in ages. They've pretty much all converted to kiosks in the convenience and drug stores.

Congrats Scott!! I know its a big change but you are about to embark on a new adventure! You get to do anything you want, go anywhere you want, and be anyone you want! Don't hold back brother, you can get real weird with it, you know if you want to, and it will be awesome!

In the words of Danny Devito's character Frank on Always Sunny in Philadelphia, "I don't know how many more years I've got on this Earth, so I'm about to get real weird with it. Now let me roll this spliff!"

I can't believe I didn't hear of Lynyrd Skynyrd before today. What an amazing band with some of the most beautiful songs I have ever listened to.

A few years ago, I had a dream that was rather disturbing yet intriguing.

I was running towards a cabin/house as I was being chased by a caramel brown dog. Surprisingly, the door was unlocked and I managed to get in just before the dog got me. It was quite spacious inside, shame I wasn't able to explore it as I can't do lucid dreaming.

For some reason, I decided to grab a black umbrella from a rack. I think I would've used it against the dog, just in case it managed to get in as it seemed to be trying to break the door. Suddenly, a dessicated body with no skin fell out of the umbrella! O_O It looked like Gunther von Hagens' works, that guy that "plastinates" bodies for art and medicine. It didn't scare me though, the first thing that actually came to my mind was "How the hell did it fit in there?!".

I woke up not long after that, STILL wondering how it managed to fit inside a regular sized umbrella.

Haha.. yeah. I have heard of a lot of old artists, though, and I think I do listen to a considerable amount of old music, but this is just the first time I ever hear of that band. I also love to watch old movies. I truly believe in the saying "Old is gold". I won't ride the bandwagon and say "Oh today's stuff sucks and anything old is better", but I like both equally, although I like to watch older TV shows and movies to get a glimpse of how life was back then.

Check out Greg Allman or for a more rock type 38 Special. Both are also considered 'Southern Rock'

I ran 13.12 miles today for a practice run for the half marathon in a month. Felt good to know I can do it, but the last 1.5 miles was tough. Glad I have a month of training left.
