stop iPhoto from starting up ??

ok this is not a problem with the iphone -it's because my iPhoto Library is way too bloated , but I'd like to stop iPhoto from starting up when I plug in my iphone. I know I can tell image capture not to start iphoto, but I didn't see where I can specify that per device. Did I miss something?

mine doesnt open iphoto, but then i dont use iphoto and have it turned off liek you said, i sync from itunes to one specific folder called iphone in my pic folder

Mine also opens iPhoto when I plug it in!!

I had the same problem with Aperture. Open the App called Image Capture, it should be in your applications folder. Once open go to the Pref. (apple , ) and click the general tab, then you will see an option to open an application when camera is connected adjust what you need to, or just select No Application. :2cool:

afaik, there is no device-specific way to stop iPhoto from launching. The only saving grace is that iPhoto won't launch if there are no photos in the iPhone's Camera Roll album.

One way to at least make it tolerable is to set up a smart album in iPhoto where "Camera model" "is" "Apple iPhone" (I inventively called mine iPhone photos), and then set iTunes to sync that smart album. That way, you can "delete photos after import" every time without thinking about it, and they'll automatically be re-uploaded into your iPhone photos album. This also clears the Camera Roll album such that if you haven't taken new photos by your next sync, iPhoto won't launch.

This should work for you.

A “Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones” checkbox is also present in this preference window. This will prevent any iPhone connected to the computer from synchronizing automatically. Individual settings are also still available on the “Summary” tab to disable automatic synchronization on an per-device basis. An iPhone with synchronization disabled can still be synchronized on-demand by clicking the “Sync” button that appears in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window, in much the same way that this is done for the Apple TV.

...and iPhoto will then launch, which is what I think the OP wanted to avoid. But thanks for the tip!

I think some of you are a little confused by my post or maybe its me.

The FIX is here in my post its NOT just for Aperture...

1. Open the App called Image Capture (it should be in your applications folder)
2. Once open go to the Pref. (apple , ) and click the general tab
3. You will see an option to open an application when camera is connected
4. Adjust what you need to, or just select No Application.

The OP asked about disabling iPhoto from launching on a device-specific basis (i.e. launch iPhoto when I plug in my Nikon, but don't launch iPhoto when I plug in my iPhone). Unless I missed a feature of Image Capture, the setting you describe is global (i.e. for all devices).

One thing y'all may want to check is whether or not iPhone will sync photos without having to launch iPhoto. You won't be able to pull photos off your iPhone (which is why I use the configuration above), but I'd be interested to see if syncing albums works.

Thanks to all who've posted but Kabeyun is correct - all the options above do not reach the desired state, as they either disable automatic syncing, or turn off all iphoto auto-imports with image capture, which I don't desire to do with my nice little cannon digital rebel I think the smart photo album idea is probably the best way to go, and keep the camera roll as clean as possible, as everybody I run into wants to see the pictures the phone takes, so of course it would be nice to have them on the phone In the grand scheme of things, this is a minor annoyance, but I figured there was some way around it that I wasn't thinking of

Mine only does this if I have photos on the phone, either already downloaded or not.

Doesn't turning the option off in iTunes work? I didn't have a problem when I turned off iPhone/iPhoto sync that way.
