O2 is planning to hatch a series of attractive propositions to boost 3G iPhone sales in the UK, according to Macworld UK's sources.
Macworld sources claim the device will cost £100 and be sold with an 18-month contract, but Apple's UK network partner may harbour deeper plans for the launch of the device. Including free upgrades, free phones for high-tariff users and pay-as-you-go deals.

We have heard that O2 may sell the iPhone in the UK on a pay-as-you-go basis, offering the device contract-free at the same price as the preceding model, £269.
It is also rumoured that the iPhone will be offered for free to new customers signing-up to the most expensive tariff. That's currently the £75 per month tariff that offers 3,000 minutes of calling and 500 texts.
And, in natural Apple style, there's one more thing: Existing iPhone customers will be offered the chance to upgrade their mobile to the new model without charge - though they will be obliged to sign-up to another 18-month contract.
Some users may prefer not to do this, instead choosing to Jailbreak their older iPhone for use on other networks, handing on to friends or relatives or even selling the device on eBay.

So far I could only find that article on the UK site, so if anyone finds this for the US please post it here. If this comes to the US then im definatly getting an iPhone. I have no idea if this is real or not I just though I would show you guys, if its not real dont blame me :D.

Well O2 is a legit company. In the UK, pay as you go is a lot more popular than pay monthly contracts. I guess it was only to be expected that they would have to offer the iPhone as PAYG in the UK.

If that is the case, guess where I will be getting my new iPhone from? I will grab one when I go home to visit the folks during xmas time. But I'm sure the PAYG iPhones will cost a lot more than the pay monthly ones.

But like everything else, nothing is 100% until the fat lady sings!!

I wouldnt care how much it costs, I just refuse to use a pay monthly phone. Think they could ship those to the US or would I have to get one from ebay? Could i use that phone in the US?

I doubt if O2 will ship it overseas, just like how AT&T will not ship outside of the US. But you could get one from the UK via eBay. With the crappy US dollar, you might get hit hard though.

There is no reason why you could not use it here in the US. But it might be very O2'fied. Might be best to ask someone who uses the V1 iPhone on T-Mobile to see how different it is?

how much will it cost me you think? how much do u think my minutes would cost me? I really dont call anyway ever it would only be for emergencies or if my house phone was died so I dont need a monthly fee as i dont use it alot. Ive been thinking about an Ipod Touch for a long time but if there is a PAYG iPhone then that would be perfect cuz it wouldnt cost me barly anything a month, right?

Never been on a Go Phone plan dude... check out the rates here:

    http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/go-phones/index.jsp

I have no idea how much the PAYG iPhone will sell in the UK. If the pay monthly iPhone is $199 here, then I would assume it's ₤100 there. I am thinking the PAYG iPhone in the UK will be about ₤250, which is about $500 ish here.

    Actually, check this out:

I wasn't far wrong (if this is the case).

The iPhone has flopped in the UK (worse than brewers droop), so they are desperate to get sales up there.
