    Hello,

I'm not a huge fan of iOS, but it's not that I hate it, I do like it a bit, but I am not convinced it's the best bang for the $$ for me at least. I have recommended it to people that might not want to fiddle 'under the hood' of the OS. I do own several iDevices, just no desktops or laptops.

Welcome to eiC, if you're a bit of fiddler, like myself then why not have a look in the jailbreak section of everythingiCafe :p

There is plenty of stuff you may find helpful/interesting.

Thanks. I am interested in that, but I wonder does Apple watch these forums? ;|

Also, is it just iPhones or can iPods and iPads be J/B'd

    Welcome egadgetguy!

U dont have to LOVE Apple IOS to join in the forum conversations. For the iDevices you do own this forum is an invaluable resource.

iPhones and iPads can be J/B'd. IDK about iPod's. If they can be fiddled with, I'm sure you an find that in either the iPod section or the JB section of this forum.

Hope to see you around posting soon.

Apple probably does watch certain forums and they have in the past used tweaks which you could previously only get via jail breaking to their iOS. For example the notification banner that came with iOS 5... that was born into Cydia.

Yup! Any idevice can be jailbroken. That goes for iMacs, AppleTV's and I'm pretty sure MacBooks can be jailbroken as well.

Let me retract what I said about iPods that can be jailbroken. I meant to say iPod Touch's can be jailbroken. I don't think iPods with the trackpad can be jailbroken.

MacBooks actually can't be jailbroken, because they already have access to the file system by default.

All jailbreaking is gaining root access to the file system, not just "user" access. This allows you to tweak and modify the phone FAR beyond what Apple allows you to do while stock.

It's fairly easy to do, and 100% reversible.

I wouldn't have my iPhone any other way!

Not entirely correct, although I'll add to what Mr.Fear has posted you don't actually jailbreak your MacBook, iMac, MacBook Pro etc to gain root access. This can be done from the OS to allow to gain root through Finder or Go. Plus you have Terminal, which you can gain root access from...

I don't either but the reason I jailbreak is to gain root access and to obtain ssh access to my iPhone 4 and iPad 2
