I just bought a canon ip4700 printer. I am new to Macs and so I am wondering what is the best way to attach the printer?

Should I attach it directly to the iMac and use a usb port or should I attach it to my NAS and then have access to a network printer from my Mac?

I have a CD rom with software for the printer, but does it make a difference in the usage of the Software if the printer is attached directly or via a NAS?

I'm not sure about connecting a printer to a NAS. I've always just plugged printers into my mac and it picks it right up, never needed to install any of the software that comes with it. I have an airport express and I did have it plugged into that at one time but since it is an Apple product again the software inside it just picked the printer right up and I was able to use it for a network printer.

First of all are you trying to connect your printer via a cable or wirelessly through your internets wifi connection? If you are doing it with a cable then just plug the cable in the back of the computer and into the printer and it should configure it automatically also install the CD-ROM they provided you. If you are trying to connect it using WiFi just post back and I can help you out. I think your easiest and simply bet is going to be connecting it via an USB cable.
