Just got the App Store on my MBP, and I'm pretty ambivalent so far. Yes, the ease of installation is great, but the opening day selection is pretty grim...some neat free widgets (Twitter, Alfred, Caffeine), but nothing that blows my mind. The "swackett" app may be the cutest weather forecast I've ever seen, by the way.

Hoping some developers run with this idea and turn it into something awesome...

I've not tried it yet to be honest, I'll try it tomorrow. I've successfully connected my iPhone and iPad together and used the iPhone as the controller, so much easier if you want to play it on the iPad.

I'm not impressed yet, but I think it has potential. If the Swackett app is as good as it sounds, that will be nice. I do think it's better than introducing the Beatles for Mac ....

I think it's ok so far, and it will probably get better as more devs add more goodies. Give it time, people!

They don't have one good music app, like a synth app, I saved my iTunes card for nothing!

Benny, the store has just been released, give it chance to grow. There are plenty of applications that I want that aren't yet on there. This is just a stepping stone.

Oh I know I just figured one of about 5,000 would've been there like beatmaker or megasynth, and I had the gift card I wanted to use, "and" we are all a little spoiled with the app store. I'm ok with waiting, I understand.

For the record: remoteMouse is AWESOME. I now have COMPLETE control of my MBP by using my 3GS as a trackpad/keyboard. Especially handy when I'm running the MBP in "closed" mode and use my 22" LCD as an external display while lounging in bed! The native Remote app is nice for iTunes, and my Apple Remote is handy for basic functions while watching Netflix, but this gives me true control over my entire MBP, just as if I was using it's own trackpad.

All you have to do is install the free app on your Mac, then get either remoteMouse Free (only supports vertical mode, which is 1/2 trackpad and 1/2 keyboard, but fully functional), or remoteMouse (supports landscape mode: left for full trackpad, right for full keyboard) for $1.99, enable Auto-Connect on each device (or manually enter your IP address), and you're up and running.

To date, this is my first time I've been impressed with the Mac App Store, but I sure don't hope it's the last....

Curious, what does "closed mode" mean.

Also known as clam shell mode, closed mode means his MBP is folded shut but is still running and using an external monitor as its display. An external keyboard and/or mouse/trackpad are also typically used but in this case it's an iPhone! I'm about to try it myself with my MBP setup.

Have you used an iPhone VNC app with your MBP before?

Just got a VNC client (Lite version) at your suggestion, and while it's pretty neat to have your desktop appear on your iPhone, I prefer remoteMouse, simply because I'd rather be looking at my LCD display rather than my 3GS. Plus, the responsiveness of the client I chose wasn't so smooth, while remoteMouse performs exactly like my trackpad.

I could see how a VNC client would be perfect for someone who needs remote access to their PC/Mac from elsewhere, but my application is a little different: I'm using it as a remote control for the coolest multimedia system I've ever owned!

You haven't steered me wrong yet! I'm sure my VNC experience was limited just because I grabbed the first free one I saw...gonna give iTeleport a try!

I have the Mac App Store, and it is nice to look at, but honestly I really have no need for it. I have way too many apps and games on my iPhone that I just don't see a need for anymore on my MacBook Pro.
