lost password on iphone 3g

Hello,

I purchased a iphone 3g for my 12 year old son. He has had it for about a month and has forgotten the password it takes to make a call or get into the phone. I have read as much as possible about either resetting it, but don't really understand what I need to do. We do have the computer that he originally synced it to if that helps. After reading the previous posts, I guess I need to say that the phone is not stolen and yes ti seems crazy that he would forget the password that he has to use to answer the phone. The thing is that he is 12 and just does not get many calls and he went afew days without using it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have never used this feature, but I do believe that if you forget your password you have to restore the phone.
