is at&t that bad?

There is a reason that there is horrible signal with Las Vegas. I was there this past summer and inside the hotel, nothing. Go out to the pool, Full bars and clear calls. In fact, in nearly every place we went, it was the same. Indoors suck, outdoors great. My theory is that because smart phones have the capability to run apps to help someone cheat, the casino's are blocking 3G service, and even some Edge service. I was only in casinos though, so I cannot completely verify my statement, but it made sense, especially when other people with cheap PCS phones were not having problems.

so you guys still keep with the iphone even tho the service sucks in your areas? is that because you think the iphone is the best available? i mean im just a college student still i dont have a big corporate job. and im not a phone geek who knos how to jailbreak and do all that stuff with 800 applications lol. not that you have to be a phone geek to do it. i just like apple products and would like to play with all those apps haha. but if the service sucked i would give it up.

I am not jailbroken, and definitely not rich. If you are curious about service in your area, I would head over to AT&T and take a look at their coverage map where you live. If it's spotty, then it's a safe bet that it's a crap shoot on service. It's it's fully covered then more than likely you will enjoy your service.
But either way, after checking, ask someone on AT&T with a smart phone how their service is and where they normally go with it. Ask about the frequency of dropped calls, and poor call quality. If they say everything is good, then you should be golden.
Now, being that you are a college student, here are some things you might want to consider:
1) it's going to be 200-300 for the phone right away
2)it's roughly 75 a month after taxes and tolls for the cheapest plan.
3) you will need to budget for purchases from the app store.

Did I need an iPhone? nope. My Nokia 6620 was enough for me to make calls with and text.
Can I live without my iphone now? Nope, I use it for too much now to be able to function without it.

i live in cda, idaho and work in spokane wa. ive never had an issue with att. ive been with them since cingular..

I agree Kaba, nice entertainment. As for AT&T in Las Vegas casinos and outside, I believe I am the expert here on this subject as 1) I work in a Vegas Casino at a high level, so I really know what's going on, 2) I live in the hills overlooking the valley so I know the difference between signals in different areas, 3) I don't type in green font, and 4) I believe in Aliens ( I don't mean foreign humans).
The casinos don't purposely block signals as we all use cell phones also, but there is a lot of electronic stuff in the walls that do block signals. When I'm not in a casino, I get as good if not better reception than any other service (have compared them all as all my friends all razz each other how their particular service is the best. The people that get razzed the most are the people that have the best phones that still don't work inside certain areas of casinos which certainly includes the Iphone. The only other place I didn't get good recepition was at my home, in the hills a little away from the city. Now that I have 3G Microcell which was just introduced to Vegas area, I have the best reception at home over any cellular service, period! It was worth the wait as I now have the best phone made with mostly great reception.
