Is a MacBook worth buying or should I save for a MacBook pro?

I would say it depends on what you're going to use it for. I recently got one for my mom and it's more than adequate for her (mostly just browsing the web and photo organizing/light editing). It would probably be adequate for me as well but I went with a slightly souped up 15" MBP (faster processor, faster HDD) mainly for the larger screen. I'd say a MacBook would be fine unless you are going to do heavy multi-tasking or graphics intensive stuff like video editing. Just my $.02

Thanks for your 2ยข lol. I think I'll just save up and get my money's worth for a MacBook pro. Because I plan on doing a lot of editing and garage band making music. So thanks for your advice.

If you buy a MacBook you'll always want a MacBook Pro. It's human nature to naturally desire something better, even if it is just slightly better.

Yea I guess it's like buying an iPhone 4 when the 4s is out.

That's a different comparison altogether. The iPhone 4 is still a formidable device. The difference between a MacBook and a MacBook Pro is substantial.

Didn't they discontinue the MacBooks? Are you thinking about getting a used one or did you mean MacBook Air?
I went with a MacBook in October 2008 because they weren't making 13" MBPs at the time and I didn't want a big laptop. The difference wasn't substantial. It was the highend MB and it actually had the same processor, RAM, graphics chip, backlit keyboard, aluminum unibody frame, etc. as the lowend MBP, but the speakers weren't as good and it had fewer ports.

I actually own and still use from time to time a 2008 MacBook in black non-unibody. I couldn't afford the MBP unfortunately. My MacBook is clearly the generation before the one you have and the specs from my model to the MBP (at the time of purchase) were quite different. US and UK prices are hugely different so I'm sort of comparing both specs and value and specs vs value.

To be honest it's the OP's decision. I bought a MB and always wanted a MBP, when I got one I've not looked back since. Your situation may have been different to that of mine :)

Yeah, you have an early 2008 MB. I'm referring to the late 2008 models. I just wanted to point out that there wasn't a substantial difference between the unibody models that year.

You can't walk into an Apple store and buy one, I'm sure you know, but I recently bought a refurbished May 2010 MacBook from the online Apple store. That is a current link so you can still get them from Apple.

Get the MacBook pro. It has a dual core i5
The MacBook is using outdated technology (not to mention its doscontinued) core 2 duo.
    Big difference

    Buy January's/february 2011model as a refurb. It's like 200-250$ off right now :}

You get a backlit keyboard with the MacBookpro

The screen in the MacBook pro Is pretty looking IMO

You can get the same screen and backlit keyboard in a MB, but yeah, the processor will be faster in a MBP.

you can't get a backlit keyboard in a MacBook from apple.
You could mod your MacBook, however that voids the warranty.
I meant to say that the body is pretty not screen :( my mistake.

I have a MacBook with a backlit keyboard. I got it from Apple and I didn't mod it. It has the same aluminum unibody casing that the MBP has.

Yup, the 2008 model was the first MB to be unibody and to have the backlit keyboard. I did feel a little unfortunate after buying my MB then a few months later they released the unibodies.
