Hello. Welcome to EverythingiCafe. To answer your question, I have never heard of being compensated for personal items such as your cell phone. My older friend even said that cell phones are usually not included with home owners insurance. However, if reported to the police and you have pictures, you may be able to be compensated for a stolen TV and or other big items in your home.

You said your iPhone was stolen? Did you have "Find My iPhone" turned on? Have you contacted your phone company?

I had my Find My iPhone turned on. However, what I did was immediately go to the Verizon store within 8 minutes of being stolen and had the phone / account frozen / shut down (not sure which it was but in effect, the phone could not be used). Thus, the Find my iPhone wouldnt work after my account was frozen, per Verizon. Also, in NYC, that app is virtually useless based on the number of people/buildings in close proximity.

I did file a police report and contacted my homeowners carrier. I have a $500 deducitible so the carrier declined (yes it would be covered if my deductible was less). I did buy it with an Amex Card but there is a 90 day rule in effect for their purchase policy so I was out of that time frame (they pay you the amount you paid for an item that is lost or stolen or defective within 90 days of purchase).

The phone was stolen while I was in a Chase bank and they refuse to even discuss the matter with me even though they have insurance to cover issues like this. I contacted them more times than I can count. I have not given up on that route but I think they will somehow give me the run around for a LONG time.

Unfortunately, 'Find My iPhone' will not work if the phone is currently turned off, has 'airplane mode' on, or has been restored. Of course, any other means of the device being disconnected from the Internet would also cause this. Your best bet is to speak with Chase Bank to see if you can review any tapes to try and find the culprit.

As far as someone being compensated for the device being lost or stolen, not likely at all. You stated you discussed with your homeowners insurance, however, it was stolen at the Chase Bank location, therefore the insurance wouldn't have covered it anyway. There actually isn't any coverage from Apple, Verizon, or any additional retailer that would cover this. I apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing. Hope everything works out for you in the end, though.

This is true, I work for Homeowners insurance and usually a cell phone is covered, stolen things are pretty much always covered (only stolen, not mysterious disappearance). You should just check your policy and see what your deductible is, and check w/them on the actual cash value of an iPhone, usually they'll settle for the current value of the phone, less your deductible.

My fiancé had a iPhone stolen along with another iPhone from a bar in Manchester UK. The following morning we contacted our insurance gave them all if the relevant information and a new iPhone was shipped out in under ten days.

My renter insurance covers it as well we have $100 deductible
My son had his phone stolen in school (out of his locker) we recovered it
But as long we file a report we could have gotten it replaced

I had a phone stolen out of my car in the driveway along with my car stereo and several other things. Our homeowners covered it after our $200 deductible.

Yes my homeowners insurance covers person items even if they're stolen while away from the house. Some policies do, some don't. Ask yours.

So you got your phone stolen and the first thing you did was get it frozen? Not smart. My phone was stolen and the first thing I did was grab my friends iPhone and tracked it. Drove 20 mins to his house and got the damn thing back!

What's the point of getting find my iPhone if you don't use it??
