International texting

Is there a way to use my iPhone to text free to an international destination?

iMessage is free around the world but of course it's between iDevices

i meant like a texting app other than iMessage.

Couldn't you use any of the texting apps from the AppStore?

Most of the texting app from the app store send messages to other phones that have the same app installed. I think he wants to know if there's an app that can send text messages to other phone (regardless if they have the same app) internationally, for free. I know there's a way to do this with the google voice app and beejive, but I've never tried it.

sorry forgot to get back to you. I texted my sister in Italy a few times using the standard international 011 for Europe, 39 for Italy then her number and I got an error, she didn't get anything. I tried to take the 39 off, nothing, both the 011 and 39, so just her number and nada. Even tried my fiancé cell here and still got an error message. I'm positive people used to use beejive to text, from the reviews, but I read a few now and I see no mention of that anymore. So unless I'm doing something wrong it doesn't work anymore.

My friend keeps texting me with a google phone number. It's a number different from her cell phone #.

I have international text messaging for an extra $10 a month on my phone from AT&T,you can send a 100 messages a month which is great!!!
Also I use the viber app, its free which you can text and call anyone with a smart phone for free as long as they have the app on here phone!!!! I use it all the time!! But the calling is not great sometimes,it's better when your in wifi!!!

Can these apps be used to send text to any phone thou, without the need of the other person having the app. I think that's what the OP is asking for.
