    From the Dev Team Blog:

Summary: Currently, PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.

If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with your jailbroken recovery mode.
If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.01.

As, Europa stated in her quote. There are various jailbreaking scenarios you need to be aware off.

You need to do a little research first before you continue. Look on Google, get a better understanding and we can help you.

Mine shows that I have a MB715LL model, does this help if I want to unlock my phone??? I did use Spirit to JB, does that negate the unlock possibility as well??? Still running 3.1.3. Not yet wise enough for IOS4!!!!!

You would need to downgrade to 3.1.2 and jailbreak without something other Spirit first.
Spirit will jailbreak it on 3.1.3.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and the iPhone world and have a question. I bought an iPhone 3GS 16gb from a friend who upgraded to the iPhone 4. The 3gs is running Version 4.0 (8A293) (if you need more info about the phone I can provide it, don't have the phone with me at the moment). It will turn on and i can use it on wifi, he left his old sim card in the 3gs I just get a No Service indication at the top of the screen.

I currently have an AT&T Blackberry Bold with the unlimited data plan and I was wondering if anyone knew if I could just take my sim card and put it in the 3gs and not be charged any extra (I tried this and the iPhone worked with my sim card and connected to 3g just don't know if AT&T will charge me for doing this), or if I should jailbreak or unlock the iPhone so AT&T won't know that my sim card is in an iPhone. If I did jailbreak the iPhone I would still want to use it on AT&T's network so my cell phone bill won't change.

I just wanted to get some opinions about what would be the best thing to do. Thanks for the help

Hey there and welcome!!!! What part of Louisiana ya from??? I live in Kaplan!!! If you already have the voice and data plan from ATT, there shouldn't be a problem. However, I'm not one of the experts on this forum...so others will probably know better. Any how, enjoy the site and stay awhile...It's worth it!!!!!!

I'm from Central.. northeast of Baton Rouge. Nice to know there's some other people from Louisiana on here!!

So after playing around with the iPhone a little more this evening I think I am going to have to jailbreak it because when i turned off wifi and tried to use the 3g data I got a popup message saying that I wasn't signed up for a data plan so I'm guessing the iPhone data plan is different than the one I already have. Calls and texts worked tho, just couldn't use data, I tried to load Safari and thats when it told me I didn't have data. Does anyone know if I jailbreak it will I be able to use the data plan I already have?

Sorry for the late response. Did you buy it used? Did the previous owner backup the 3.1.2 (or earlier) SHSH? There would be green text at the top of the home page in Cydia saying which versions are backed up.

I remember when I first bought this Iphone , that I read on this site these versions cant be jailbroken , that when you do jailbreak them they have a high chance of freezing and etc.

About 5months later Im wondering if you can finally jailbreak em without the problems you use to have , the serial number is 83945P6R3NP and model is MB715LL

    Thank you

Well Great! The Jailbreakme.com website has a "403 - Forbidden" message appearing. Any info on this?
