Hey guys, has anyone able to successfully connect their iPad via ad-hoc network to a laptop running Win7? I have 2 laptops, 1 is running on XP which is my work laptop and a personal laptop running Win7. As for my internet connection, I'm using a 3G mobile broadband device. (USB dongle)

For the XP, I was able to successfully connect the iPad via ad-hoc, the iPad was able to get a valid IP (192.168.0.xxx) & security on WEP. As you all know, the Win7 has a slight difference on how to setup the ad-hoc connection. I still applied the same principle, (share the internet connection on the 3G device then used my wifi as the means for any device to connect) but this time, my iPad cannot get the proper IP setting. (getting 169.xxx.xxx.xxx as the IP) Both setup don't have any bridged connections.

The difference between the two setup are: On the XP, I was able to turn the firewall off for the wifi connection, the internet connection still has the firewall setting on. On the Win7, I can't find where to do this. On the XP, it only has a 1 IP config type checked (IPV4) on Win7 I have IPV4 and IPV6. (should I disable IPV6?) Enabling the ICS on the XP gives the wifi connection a static IP of 192.168.0.1, on the Win7 it gives 192.168.37.1. If I do an IPCONFIG on the XP I can only see 2 network adapter configs (wifi and the ethernet) on the Win7 (it seem to have more than 20 virtual network tunnel... IPV6?)

Can anyone can help me with this? Would really appreciate it. By the way, I don't know if it matters but I'm using Trend Micro on my XP (cannot do anything about it since its from the company) and on my Win7, I'm using NOD32.

And one last important thing, I can connect other devices to both XP and Win7 via ad-hoc (mobile phones with wifi functions, laptops) the iPad is the only device that I can't connect successfully to the Win7 :(

    Thanks.

My only suggestion is to reboot the iPad before trying to connect to the Win7 machine.
What I suspect is happening is that the iPad is looking for specific MAC address, and the Win7 machine might be emulating a different one than from Win XP, even though the USB adpter's MAC remains constant.
This is the same type problem people get when they connect a Cable modem to a laptop from a desktop, without rebooting the modem. The modem already had an established connection linked to a specific MAC address, and it doesn't release that until it's rebooted. If you connect to another device, everything might look correct, but the modem is not going to talk to the laptop because it's looking for the desktop MAC address- until you reboot it.

Does that make sense? It's a little different with what you have setup, but I suspect it's essentially the same scenario.

Was able to connect it, by using a static IP. I think it should be ok since its my own hotspot.
