Explain to me SSH Install Please!!!

I need some easy instructions of how to install SSH.. all the other instructions are just so confusing i dont know what im doing!!!:foot:

To gain access on iphone...Download putty from

I downloaded the 1st one from ftp

Go to wifi settings on iPhone and get your ip

load up putty.... type in ip address... and make sure Port is 22

when it asks for login or username.... type in.... root

password, type in .... dottie

this is pissing me off! i cant get this to work! i tried putty and WinSCP and it keeps telling me ( Network Error: Permission Denied )

If you have a Mac then use terminal..

Applications>Utilities>terminal


then at the cmd line...

ssh user@ipaddress

user is the user you need to login with and IP address *should* be the address of the phone

it will then prompt you for a password, which I do not know b/c I havent modded my iphone......... yet :tounge:

maybe wrong password... password is dottie

Username for PC\MAC = root
Password for PC\MAC = dottie (unless changed by you)

still didnt work and i have never changed it. this is my ip address. does this sound right

How do you change the password if you're using windows? I don't have a mac terminal.

Yes that sounds about right.... Not sure what it could be. What proggy are you using to access it?

Winscp and i also tried proxy

Make sure you have SCP selected in the dropdown window in WinSCP... Also, try usings Putty.... its not a simple drag and drop like Winscp, but its a start to trying to find out the issue. Also, make sure the port is allowed in your firewall settings.

Any idea why its not letting me type in the password? I type in root. that goes thru, then when i "attempt" to type dottie it doesnt let me type in in...? any ideas?
