If I want to access my work Exchange Mail server with push calendar events and email, do I have to get the Enterprise Data Plan($45) ? Or can I do this with the Personal Data ($30) plan?

I haven't found any definitive statement that claims you must pay for the Enterprise Data Plan, at least I really hope not. That is a huge jump from $20 to $45. I don't need the Enterprise applications, just the push.

Not what I heard. I've heard the enterprise will cost $15 a month, bringing to $45.

I just read the hot topic:
    http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone-3g/confirmed-iphone-to-go-on-sale-at-8am-30253.html

and I found it very interesting the way they posted the last 2 sections:
    ***
    iPhone for Business

Business customers interested in iPhone 3G should contact an AT&T business sales representative or review their account information online to determine their eligibility for upgrade pricing. Corporate e-mail and other business applications require the Enterprise Data Plan for iPhone, which is $45 a month and bundled with an eligible voice plan. Small business customers may qualify for AT&T BusinessTalk, the industry’s only shared plan specifically for small businesses. Additional details on iPhone business offerings are available at www.att.com/iphoneforbusiness.

    iPhone 2.0 Software

All iPhone customers will benefit from the iPhone 2.0 software, which will be pre-loaded on all iPhone 3Gs and available as a free download for current iPhone customers. The new software will include numerous enhancements, such as business-class e-mail access via Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync; the iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK), which allows a business to easily create applications customized to its needs; and the App Store, which offers a wide-range of applications — from games to business, education to entertainment and productivity to social networking. For example, AT&T has developed YELLOWPAGES.COM Mobile for iPhone, which takes local mobile search to a new level by allowing users to discover businesses and local events based on their popularity among other iPhone users, get directions and access business reviews.
    ***

Notice how they use the terms "Corporate e-mail" vs. "business-class e-mail access via Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync" under the "All iPhone customers will benefit from the iPhone 2.0 software" part.

I am hoping there is a basic Exchange usage available with the $30 plan. Am I reading into things too much?

Nope. Called AT&T. For enterprise - it'll be $45 a month (data and push email), no text. Confirmed at 3 different stores in SoCal. Believe me or not, that's what I've been told, and that's what searching on the internet will get ya. :)

Sounds snotty, but I'm laughing as I type this...

    From ATT website:
AT&T's super-fast mobile broadband network puts iPhone 3G in the broadband fast lane with download speeds of up to 1.4 Mbps.
Find your location, get directions, and even track your progress along your route using Maps with GPS.
With support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, iPhone delivers push email, calendar, and contacts.
The App Store lets you browse applications and download them directly to your iPhone.
Available in 8GB (black) and 16GB (black or white) models.
Add a Consumer Data Plan for iPhone 3G to a qualified voice plan for $30 per month.
Add an Enterprise Data Plan for iPhone 3G to a qualified voice plan for $45 per month.

Right. It SUPPORTS IT. That doesn't mean it's free. I'm gonna quit discussing this now, before people get out of hand and start to argue. Again, I verified, and I like to think I don't post crap information. Believe or not.

BTW read your very last line. It states EXACTLY what I've been saying. $45 for enterprise.

Sounds partial, but I hope dturner is right :laugh2:

Why use the language in the release I identified earlier if there is no difference?

lol - I really can't stop laughing here. It supports it. It supports apps too. You'll have to pay for both (except the free apps, of course).

Ramesh, people will argue you tooth and nail until 7/11 because everyone wants it to be cheaper.

For what it's worth, I think you're wrong, too. But neither of us will know till 7/11.

    Down boy! ;)

I agree with Ramesh. Everything I've seen on this, including the excerpts quoted above, says to me that Exchange / push support costs extra.

MobileMe will be the one-time (low-ish) fee push option at $99/year vs. $180 extra per year for the Exchange plan. Not a bad little way to gain some traction for 'Exhange for the rest of us'. Wont' make a difference for those in big corporate environments, but for individuals and small biz ...

LOL, obviously it supports it if it's listed in Business. Why list it again in the following paragraph entitled "iPhone 2.0 Software" with the opening line "All iPhone customers will benefit from..."?

Either, in my opinion, it's very misleading or actually refers to a difference. I guess we'll know for SURE in 10 days and counting...

If you click on the Features tab you'll find that the Push email is under the Enterprise choice.

Look, in my experience, the push exchange email will work on a Treo without business data plans; i had a treo and a normal plan (non-business) and it works fine. Accessing an exchange server is like accessing a site on the web and ATT cannot control what sites you access on the web. What they do is if your account is listed in a business name they make you pay for the business plan and if you notice how they word everything - it's confusing - they make you think that you have to pay for the business plan to access exchange servers and a lot of people will probably buy in, making ATT a lot more revenue for nothing.

Yeah, what Rob said. I had push email through AT&T with a measly little $20/mo Edge plan with my 2125. It all depended on if your device supported it (I had an SMT5600 before that with WMSE2003... same plan, but didn't support push). I didn't have to pay more per month when I upgraded to a device that supports push.

I still vote that push will be available on both plans. Perhaps there is extra integration with business Exchange servers or something of that nature. But I bet if you are clever enough to find your own Exchange server system, you'll be fine.

That's good to know! Look, I think the best thing is to go in and get the non-business data plan and see if you can get the push email to work. I am quite confident that if you can't and you call ATT and ask to switch to the enterprise data plan they'll switch you. I also wonderif the other push items (calendar, etc.) will work on the regular plan.

Interesting to me was the fact that support for the other file types (zip, etc) also were listed under the enterprise section which, if you applied the logic that being in the section meant you had to pay for those items it would imply that in order to view those file types you'd have to have the enterprise plan which I don't think is the case.
