The new iPhone will be the 6th generation iPhone, so it really bothers me to refer to it as the "5".

    Original iPhone: 1st Gen.
    iPhone 3G: 2nd Gen.
    iPhone 3GS: 3rd Gen.
    iPhone 4: 4th Gen.
    iPhone 4S: 5th Gen.

Here's hoping Apple gets their naming correctly and doesn't name it the iPhone 5. How about iPhone LTE or something Ike that...

Doesn't bother me in the least what anyone else calls it.
I shall just call it "my precious"....

They might change course and get rid of numbers altogether. They might just call it the "New iPhone" like they did w/the iPad.

Me too. I don't care what they call it as long as it's in my pocket.

As my grandfather used to say: "I don't care what you call me as long as it's not late or dinner."

Funny stuff, I use a modified version of that one all the time:
"u can call me anything, just don't call me late to dinner"

It kind of bugs me. It's not the fifth iPhone so why would they call it the iPhone 5? They're more than likely going to call it the new iPhone.

They should take a page from Microsoft.

The New Apple iPhone® Mobile Telephone System 2012 Professional Edition.

And on the box, there will be a bright yellow sticker that says "Now with new optical technology, 33% faster!"

People are searching for iPhone 5 news. In return, sites continue to title things surrounding the new iPhone with 'iPhone 5'.

I do think sanity will prevail and it will be called "the new iPhone" (6th generation) when it is unveiled.

Why would it bother anyone, unless you're OCD. There's so many things that bother me that actually have a meaning, this one doesn't. How it's made is more important to me.

I'm OCD when it comes to words, names, grammar, etc. Just as I hate when the media gets lazy and calls people by shortened names, e.g. JLo, Bradjolina, staycation, etc. I could go on.

I know, right? Very trivial, yet it exists.

Define "bother". I know it's wrong generationally-speaking and I believe Apple will not use such a name for the next iPhone, but whatever. We all know what someone is talking about when they use the moniker "iPhone 5" right now, and it will be named whatever it is when it's announced. So try not to lose any sleep over it in the meantime. I don't.

I suffer from an incredibly rarer yet truly socially debilitating infliction. It's called C.D.O. Very similar to O.C.D. but the letters are

    IN THE CORRECT ORDER.

Yup. I think "The New iPhone" should be called "iPhone LTE". That just sounds so right
