Plug phone into iTunes keep both fingers on home and power button until iPhone is detected, restore, then rejailbreak

Thanks mate, I've tried redsnow and green poison to jailbreak but hasn't worked, it sounds simple enough but the phone just keeps saying try again

Make sure you run the jailbreak program in administrator mode.

Make sure you backup your iPhone in iTunes before choosing to restore. Then run your backup to put everything back on the iPhone and then Jailbreak. Administrator mode does need to be used if on a Windows computer.

Believe me I've tried restoring but iTunes didn't even recognise my iPhone 3G that's why I had to do it on iMac

Try this.. Plug iPhone into iTunes, hold home and power button until it is recognised, let go of power button but keep hold of home ...

Do you have the iPad baseband installed?

A new feature released by the Dev-Team allows the user to downgrade the iPad baseband. What iTunes errors are you receiving?

Also, having the iPad baseband installed can cause problems when jailbreaking, updating and restoring.

Restore to factory settings in iTunes. Use DFU mode if iTunes doesn't recognize it. This will do a clean install of 4.2.1 on your iPhone 3G. Then jailbreak using greenp0ison RC5. You can apply your backup after you successfully jailbreak it. This is done by right clicking on your iPhone in iTunes and selecting restore backup. This only restores your backup, not the firmware.

How to apply your backup after you jailbreak:

I hope your problem would be solved till now, but to be true, what actually attracted me was the title of your post which seems to be a call for the help for a real Jail-Break!
