Hey guys i´ve always wanted to discuss this and i want your opinion

Dont you guys think that is stupid that apple doesnt let you download apps over 10 MB when on your cellular network ?

i´ve always ask myself this question and i dont know the answer..this shouldnt be a problem since they force us to pay 30.00 dollars for unlimited internet and we cant even download a 10MB app, i monthly use over 1 GB of cellular data when im not on WIFI and when i want to download an App over 10 MB when im not home I CANT. This is really frustrating,

Do you guys think the same ?

You pay AT&T the $30 unlimited internet a month, not Apple. I'm sure AT&T made Apple put a cap on downloads.

Now, even with this cap in place some people in certain cities already have bandwidth problems and dropped calls. Imagine if there were NO cap.

I know it's frustrating that you can't download your uber game over 3G, but it's for the greater good (in general).

I've found ways around it - seeking free Wi-Fi and of course the simple "wait until you get home to download it to iTunes and sync."

With that said, most songs should be less than 10MB so that should be no problem. And I'm even surprised that a 3-D heavy game like Glyder is still under 10MB.

I think its partly AT&T and partly for your "protection" lol. I'm sure partially downloaded apps don't work well so Apple probably thinks its best if you are on wifi to maximize download speed and minimize download corruption. Although 10MB is pretty slim.

If you really care about it and you are jailbroken, there's a download on Cydia that makes the iPhone think you are on WiFi and let's you download the apps over the cellular network. But like jarofclay73 and styfle have said, this is done so that the load on the network is less.

If he owns a 3GS it won't work until it's updated.

The file size limitations actually don't bother me. I remember when we first got the 3G phones and we were advised to ONLY download apps from your computer rather than on the phone itself. You guys remember that? Today, I'm practically always near free wi-fi access.

3Gunrestrictor was just released on Cydia for $2 that will allow you to use wifi-restricted apps with the 3g network.

3Gunrestrictor makes AT&T think you're using wifi when you're actually using 3g, thereby bypassing the wifi-only restrictions of certain apps.

The recent update to Mobile Substrate on Cydia makes VoIPover3G work again. I've tested it with Skype and the App Store.

No, It is not acceptable for Apple OR ATT to limit my supposedly unlimited bandwidth. I pay them good money for service they are not providing. Ever since the launch of the 3GS, my iphone has had numerous (too many to count) network issues.
Everyone in the US needs to stop settling for the status quo when it comes to network bandwidths and performance. This applies to both cellular and broadband. ComCRAP (I mean comcast) is just as guilty of throttling network traffic that they consider undesirable because their network just can't keep up!!!

I downloaded the 3g unrestrictor, and tested it out with iTunes mobile. It worked perfectly. However, my battery couldn't stand the test! It drained completely before I could finish the last song on a 10 song album via Edge speeds. But, I'm still glad that I'm able to freely download now.

As an aside, a nice side feature of that 3g unrestrictor is that you can use You Tube and the video will download in higher resolution as the system THINKS you are on WI-FI.

I use the Unrestrictor mainly for skype/itunes and appstore. It's going to be a permanent addition to my phone.

I got 3Gunrestrictor simply for the over 10mb downloads on 3G and improved YouTube quality. Worth $2 for sure.
