i have a few apps that don't show the right icon...for example, i just downloaded TUAW, but the icon shows as Skype, albeit a bit shaded over. this happened with a few others also, so i don't think it has anything to do with TUAW specifically.

any way to fix it? i've tried deleting and reinstalling, but no dice...

Reading around a bit leads me to believe that a restore might be the only permanent fix. You're not jailbroken by any chance are you?

hey Phil, i'm not jailbroken, but i once was...there's definitely some lingering effects, like the "blank app" space holder...pretty sure i had this issue before though.

It could be a result of restoring from a backup as opposed to restoring as a new device. I had an issue with the "blank app" thing as well as with the "personalized carrier logo". Both stuck around every time I restored from a backup.

Does the app have the right display name or is it just completely out of whack?

it's a bug on the OS 3.0 software. You can do what I have done that seems to fix the problem by following the below steps:

    1. Go into iTunes and connect your iPhone / iPod
    2. Uninstall the apps via iTunes that show the wrong icon
    3. Disconnect your device and reboot
    4. Reconnect your device and reinstall the apps via iTunes that were giving you a problem.
    5. Your apps should now display properly

Try that and see if it helps. If it does, you might want to hold off on rebooting / installing new apps for a day at least. This seems to clear up any existing issues with the icons for some reason.

    I just did the following:
    1. Delete ONE of the apps with a wrong icon.
    2. Open iTunes store on the iPhone.
    3. Start to re-download the above app. While downloading, tap the app icon to "pause" the download.
    4. Turn the iPhone off then back on again.
    5. Resume the paused download.
When the paused download completes, ALL your improper icons should re-set to the proper icons.
    Enjoy!

well hopefully 3.1 resolved the issue. I had it one time with 3.0.1.

It did, supposedly. It's one of the last features on the list:
