any chance ATT updates their data plan, to compete with Verizon?

I've been with ATT for about 5 months now and now that the Verizon iPhone is official I'm ALREADY considering switching back. I'm 16 days into my data plan and already at 1800mb usage out of my 2gb. Anyone think it's possible ATT brings back the unlimited data plan to compete with Verizon? Because that might just cause me to switch back over.

Nope, if anything, Verizon will introduce capped data plans too....

I just read a report on another major iPhone site that they called customer service about 30 minutes ago and customer service agreed to switch from limited to unlimited plus tethering. Not sure if he just got snowed though but might be worth a shot

I might give it a shot. And if it doesn't work, I'll probably switch and hope for the best. It's pretty ridiculous. It's SO easy to go over your limit with a streaming netflix app. I work 10 hour shifts so I watch ALOT of netflix and I really have to limit my usage on everything because I have to make it last a whole month.

AT&T might just wait and see what effects the iPhone will have on Verizon's network and take from there. But in all I don't care glad to see another carrier in the iPhone game. I'm with AT&T with no plans to switch just can't wait to see how this will effect both AT&T and Verizon. This might be the relief that some customers from AT&T might experience using their data

I agree. I believe some of verizon new customers are in the the same boat as OP, meaning they use a lot of data and now they want the unlimited data plan from verizon. If you put all these people together on the same network, the traffic is going to increase dramatically and eventually they will have to cap, look at ATT, exact thing happened to them. That's just my speculation anyway, who knows. I have the unlimited plan so I'm all good, 11 days into the plan and I"m already at 4.5gb's.

For those of you who are thinking about switching... unless you are buying a new iphone to use, the one you currently have with AT&T will NOT work on the Verizon system.

I'm staying put for now, anyone that wants to switch can very easily sell their AT&T iPhone and buy a verizon one and walk away with a nice profit!

Can you verify this with a source or do you just make it up as you go?

    Just curious.

edit: I'm sorry, you just come across with a matter of fact attitude, as if you know something we don't know. You are speaking of your personal opinion, not fact, correct? Just clarifying.

I think the expression "If anything" is equivalent to "in my opinion", at least that's how I read it.

"If anything" :dft012:wink, AT&T won't want to look like it made a mistake with the capped data plans, and that they're behind the curve, with Verizon in control and AT&T playing catch-up. The dollars will ultimately decide, though, and the mobile market is ever changing.

AT&T could come out with a new unlimited plan, and claim it was made possible by all their "industry-leading network improvements". Dizzy from the spin, I am...

How did you get "in my opinion" out of that? The post clearly said "Nope" to the OP's question.

Then expanded on it by saying "if anything", meaning, other than AT&T changing their rate plans, Verizon will introduce their own data caps.

I only asked because it sounds like maybe IR has some inside info, or can see the future. I have no idea.

If you wanna switch to Verizon for the unlimited data you should do it quickly. If any modifications to the policy happen you'll be "grandfathered" in to unlimited or whatever it is. And your terms of your signed contract should be upheld.

There probably won't be changes immediately, but don't wait too long there is gonna be a sudden influx of VZW iPhones out there and I'm sure there are technicians working at Verizon whose primary job is keeping an eye on iPhones data usage and it's effects on their network.

No, I just want to separate facts from opinions clearly. ^_~

No reason to get worked up over it. I might be mistaken and read the comment wrong, IR could easily correct me and no harm done. c:

I can't say anything is a "fact," but I seem to recall both AT&T and Verizon saying at some point that capped or more metered type plans were inevitable. This would indicate that Verizon probably has plans to introduce a limit or at least more tiers at some point. Just because VZW is launching with an "unlimited" plan doesn't mean they'll keep it as an option forever. (And I seem to recall when I had my BlackBerry with Verizon that "unlimited" really meant 5GB, or so the sales associate told me.)

    Some food for thought:

I just said I was going to switch in feb 10 to Verizon . They don't want to lose any customers so they do it for u . It should be back on there data plain opposition by feb 10.
