After reading various articles and looking at ink blots (seeing what I want to see), here is my latest SWAP (Super wild-ass prognostication)

The future (2008/9) for Apple may be via an "augmented reality" (AR) eye-phone. Let’s call them iShades.:2cool:

Apple Insider hints at a “jaw-dropping device not due to hit the market until the following year.”
AppleInsider | Mac OS X key to Apple's consumer electronics strategy

Is this new product an AR iShades (eyewear)? :2cool: No it will be very much more than Motorola’s Thumper (MP3/Sunglasses). With iShades you don’t just hear music, you also see many things* through the glass frames and you can chat with your OS (voice recognition built-in) or with friends via the incorporated iShades phone.

*To learn more about the “things” you might see in your field of vision, read Microvision (MVIS) Blog

The eyewear product manager for Mircovision has even hinted that an Apple logo might at some point appear on "augmented reality" (AR) eyewear. He didn’t mention his own company, but it's not a stretch to conceive of such a collaboration. And oh by the way, Microvision has just announced (Thurs., Dec 14th) a joint development agreement with a manufacturing partner. What are they cooking up? “Ultra-miniature laser projectors for mobile phones, personal media players, laptops and DVD players. Additional applications include lightweight color eyewear.”

Hmmm? Interesting! Hope it’s Apple. But darned if Microvision isn’t HQed in Redmond, WA. Too cold and rainy up there. And the Vistas aren’t very good there either.:tounge:

    iShades update

    Update:

    http://gizmodo.com/380805/apple-patents-laser-head mounted-display-sharks-rejoice
    APPLE
    Apple Patents Laser Head-Mounted Display-
Apple has applied for a patent for a laser-based headset to use with its iPod and iPhone. And, unlike most headset displays, which can be bulky due to the light source and optical elements, the Cupertino company has come up with a way of slimming the device down. Here's how.

All the image-generation electronics, the laser engine and other optics can be put into a compact, battery-powered box, that can be clipped onto the wearer's belt. Laser-generated video is then transmitted to the headset display via optical cable, before ultra-thin wedge optics display the image in the glasses.

With a thickness of just 2mm on the optical display element, Apple's patent design means that the display could be the same size as a pair of spectacles. When not being used, the optical display elements become transparent, meaning that you can transform the headset from common-or-garden reading glasses to a display in just the flick of a switch.

This does sound very interesting and I'm sure apple will make it pretty slick somehow.

Imagine just wearing normal looking shades/glasses and having them connected via bluetooth to your iphone on your belt or in your purse and the phone rings and you see who's calling with thier picture pop up in your lens or what about coverflow, tilting your head left or right to scan album covers, hehe, just daydreaming, sounds cool though, can't wait to see what, if anything, comes of it.:laugh2:

Too bad they don't look more like a regular pair of sunglasses. Walking around wearing something that looks like Geordie LaForges headset on StarTrek is just not my style. ;-)
