I am using Vista. What are the steps that I need to do with the Administrator thing? I was using Ultra VNC. I don't know much about networks and servers and all that, so I think my ignorance and my Vista are the 2 biggest problems.

In Vista if you right click on the application you intend to use and select 'Run as Administrator' that should take care of UAC problems with Vista. Probably. To forward ports on a router you'll need to use a web browser to log in to your router and configure the router to forward the port VNC is using to the LAN IP of the system you're using to host the VNC session. You can find tutorials online that can explain this process much more clearly than I could. http://portforward.com/routers.htm

This is a very simple and free program that requires minimal configuration and has worked perfectly for me, I would suggest maybe giving that a try. Also, if you are behind a firewall you will have to forward the port VNC uses to the IP of the system that is hosting the session. By default, the port VNC uses is 5900. You may have to also do some Vista specific things (if you are running Vista with User Account Control turned on) to get VNC to work, namely running the host program as Administrator. Good luck.
how did u get it to setup with tight vnc cause i can't figure it out and that is the vnc im using

Just install TightVNC and run 'Launch TightVNC Server' in the folder it installs to. Don't forget to set a password.

Man, all of this is really confusing. All this LAN and server and port and host... I'm like, "Huh?"

I wish someone could just remotely access my computer and do it for me, then tell me what to do with my iPhone so it can just WORK because I don't understand all this stuff.

The LAN (local area network) IP is the IP that systems behind the firewall (usually a router for home networks) use to talk to each other locally. For example if you have a router at home and two systems attached to it if you copied a file from one system to another you would be accessing the system via it's LAN IP. WAN (wide area network) IP or internet IP is the IP that your ISP gives you to access the internet. Your router is there to combine these two networks without letting IPs from the internet access your local network. Port forwarding allows machines from outside your local network access to a local IP via the internet from a specific port. With VNC you are telling your router to forward any information relayed on a specific port (from the internet) to an address that is specific to a computer that is running your host program (locally). This is essentially bypassing the firewall.

Just curious if you were able to figure it all out. I use VNSea and VNC all the time and might be able to help.

I wasn't. I just got frustrated and uninstalled it. I figured 3 days was the longest I was going to spend trying to get an app to work.

Would you walk me through it, I mean from start to finish? Because this stuff has been getting on my nerves, and I'm not very patient to begin with. I'm computer savvy, but like I said, when it comes to all that network stuff, I'm as dumb as Forrest Gump.
