Stay away from 'Kate'

I used CyberDuck to SecureFileTransferProtocol into my iPhone directory and followed Dell's advice:


"In case the touchscreen will not work, try to remove all files from a folder /Library/LaunchDaemons/, except for files: com.openssh.sshd.plist and com.ripdev.remindme.plist"

Then I rebooted the phone.

My touch screen now works.

Probably at you programs incompatible with Kate.app have been installed.

Teamwork of these applications with Kate can cause problems:

Dock, Screenshot, SMSNotifier, TaskBar Notifier, and also problems with SummerBoard and Customize are possible.



In case the touchscreen will not work, try to remove all files from a folder /Library/LaunchDaemons/, except for files: com.openssh.sshd.plist and com.ripdev.remindme.plist



After that reboot iPhone.



It can be made by means of program iBrickr on a computer, or with other file browsers for iPhone.







Uninstall Kate:

Install Kate in Installer.app, after that open Kate.app, unmark

checkboxes and press "Apply", after that uninstall from Installer.app.



Or remove all files and folders:

/Applications/Caterpillar.app/

/Library/MobileEnhancer/

/var/root/Library/RiPInstall/

/private/var/root/Library/RiPDev/

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.ripdev.remindme.plist

I suppose it takes a problem like this to make ou realise that there is help out there AND other iphone users who have much more experience than I have. I bought an imported phone from EBAY, so can't restore from Itunes... any other suggestions?

same situation!!1.1.2. but... i tried to restore from itunes and now it is asking for a valid sim card... i dont have that and i only can make emergency calls!!!

I am amazed at how many people have been faced with all these issues from an application that is Trusted by Null River. I'm contacting RipDev (the developers) and sending them this thread. Hopefully they'll do some work on it.

I have had the same problems and everyone else here. It was all fine and dandy till I registered (paid for) my copy! I have emailed ripdev requesting a full refund, will be interesting to see the reply

Many thanks for all the help... glad to say my iphone is back to normal. I will be interested to see the response from the developers. Software like that should come with some kind of warning. Will watch out for other comments on this with interest...

Just letting anyone interested in Kate know, that it is working fine with my iPhone by now. My specs are as follows:
- regular german phone, jailbreaked only, with regular sim card (did not remove simlock)
- 1.1.4
- no summerboard, no other conflicts with other similar programs

Will keep you posted if anything happens.

KateKiller here again,

After reinstalling the program to UNINSTALL it again (stupid me), Kate's icon didn't have the X by it anymore, thus not allowing me to use this trick.

I just reset the phone by holding the power and home buttons, and Kate's features are now back, along with the X on the icon.

I'm trying my own trick again as I am typing this...hopefully it will work again.

same happend to me after deleting from screen it came back again doing hard reset and dont have any icon of ***** kate. nothing working do not want to uninstall because its unlocked to all network

A very good question. We need to point somebody from Nullriver in the direction of this thread. I never got a reply back from Rip Dev on the email I sent them.
