Here's how to completely remove Kate:
Login to your iPhone using SSH. The following commands will delete the Kate directories. Before deleting, you need to set the rm permissions.
chmod -s /bin/rm
rm -Rf /Library/MobileEnhancer/RiPDevPrefs.men
rm -rf /var/root/Library/RiP*
chmod +s /bin/rm
Reboot the iPhone.
After deleting, the Kate icon will still be on the iPhone. Launch your installer.app and unistall Kate.

2. backup iphone
3. jailbreak it once
4. restore it
5. the phone comes back but carries the carrier warning about sim
6. jailbreak again (all comes back to normal)
7. restore your backup from itunes
well atleast my text msgs came back, contacts came back and calendar came back...everything else's gone...i had a proud 5 screens of applications...all gone now and must be built from a scratch...but a lesson well learnt.....
